Who Was MARY HOWARD? Mary Howard was a homeless Philadelphian who was
well-known in the homeless community. Mary’s ever-
present smile and positive attitude touched and in-
spired those who knew her. Mary passed away in 1995
from health conditions compromised and worsened
because of her living conditions on the city’s streets.
HoursMary Howard Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Evening and Saturday hours are often available.
AppointmentsAppointments are preferred and can be scheduled by calling 215.592.4500. We also offer daily
walk-in services. Services available in both English and Spanish. Please call for more information.
Health Insurance At Mary Howard, no one is turned away. We provide quality services to all, regardless of abil-
ity to pay. All forms of health insurance are accepted including Medicaid, Medicaid managed
care and Medicare.

About UsThe Mary Howard Health Center is the only primary health care center in Philadelphia that
serves people who are experiencing homelessness. A nurse-managed center, Mary Howard is
based on the premise that comprehensive, effective health care of homeless people resulting
in excellent outcomes is achievable.
Our StaffOur bilingual staff includes nurse practitioners and nurses, a social worker and two psychiatric
nurse practitioners. Mary Howard nurse practitioners hold advanced practice degrees and pro-
vide comprehensive, holistic health care.
Our ServicesA source of primary care in Philadelphia for nearly 15 years, Mary Howard Health Center offers
the following services:
� Comprehensive primary care
� Management of chronic illnesses, such as diabetes and hypertension
� Family planning services including treatment for STDs
� Rapid HIV testing and counseling
� Substance abuse and mental health treatment on site and by referral
� Referrals to additional health and social service providers
� Health education and disease prevention
� Enrollment in insurance and public bene� ts
� Nutrition counseling
� Optometry
About Health Care for the Homeless:Public Health Management Corporation (formerly Philadelphia Health Management
Corporation) began the Health Care for the Homeless Program (HCH) in 1985 to
address the unmet health needs of homeless people. The program provides health
care outreach and services to shelter residents at over 40 shelters throughout the city
and Delaware County. HCH has a strong public health focus providing immunizations
for children entering the shelter system, TB surveillance and stemming outbreaks of
vaccine-preventable diseases in shelters.
