Mary Alice!(ME!)

Hi, I'm Mary Alice, and I love to hang out with my friends. I get mad at my parents when they don’t let me take my friends, but I have fun anyway.

Whenever we go to Grandma’s house, the adventures get more interesting and weirder. Now I will tell you about

me. I like to tap dance, ballroom dance, and jump rope. I also love to hang out with my two best friends!

Joey

Joey is my brother, and he always comes with me to grandma’s house. I am afraid that if he doesn’t

come, I’ll be bored. He loves airplanes, Nehi’s, and he wants to learn how to drive, which I think is

crazy. We have two different personalities, but we need each other at Grandma’s. I don’t know what he wants me to call him. I call him Joey, but he likes Joe.

Grandma

Grandma is a crazy person. Every year when I get off the train, I

expect an adventure! Grandma has a cat who is very old. Grandma is a liar. I can’t

remember one summer when Grandma hasn’t lied.

Shotgun Cheatham's Last Night Above Ground

In the year 1929, when me and Joey went to grandma’s, was the year of Shotgun’s last night above ground. I remember very clearly because I could not sleep for three years after! What I thought happened was

that Shotgun came back from the dead! It turns out it was grandma’s cat moving the coffin, but everyone else thought what I had. Grandma

ended up re killing him by shooting him. Grandma is not a people person, and I figured out years later that it was an excuse to get the

people out of her house. It was a scary experience at the time, but now I just laugh at it.

Joey’s point of view

In 1929, I remember Shotgun Cheatham was supposed to be buried. Grandma wanted to

show his body at her house, which I was curious as to why. When Shotgun was set

up in the front window, I saw his coffin moving, and I tried to stay calm, and I did. I was going to tell everyone that it was a cat,

but I was intelligent, and knew Grandma would get people out of her house with this

“excuse”.

Centennial Summer

In the summer of 1935, when I was 13, it was time for a century celebration. Grandma said it was a waste, but she said we could watch the parade

from the porch. Grandma had mentioned a talent show, but didn't seem like she cared until

she wanted to win. I ended up entering, and winning! My partner was Ray, a man with two left feet. At the end of our trip I found a cat in

the basket. I still think grandma put it in there!
