That’s what hundreds of our Smith County neighbors face every day. But you can help fight hunger in East Texas by attending the seventh-annual Empty Bowls Dinner and Auction scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, in Pirtle Hall and Fair Gym. All proceeds will benefit hunger relief efforts of the East Texas Food Bank, PATH and St. Paul Children’s Foundation. Tickets are $20 (children are free) and can be purchased through the church. Every dollar raised will go towards hunger relief. Local artists have painted and designed hundreds of pottery, wood and ceramic bowls. A live auction and sale table will be part of the event. A simple meal of soup, bread and dessert will be served. The meal has been donated by area restaurants and chefs. Be sure to buy your ticket and invite your friends and neighbors to be part of this outstanding event! A group of Marvin youth spent spring break at Disney World. NEW TO MARVIN Our new organist/associate music director is Dr. Brian W. Campbell. He comes to us from Kansas City, where he completed his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Kansas. He spent time in Fort Worth at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received his master’s of music degree in organ performance. Brian is a talented and versatile musician, having grown up in the church, and we are excited to have him join our staff. EASTER OFFERING Our Easter Offering for Missions benefits four ministries, two local and two worldwide. PATH and the East Texas Food Bank minister to thousands of those in need in Tyler and the surrounding area. Lives around the world are touched by UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) and the work of Revs. Paul and Saba Renjithan in India. Our offering goal is $16,000. To help make a difference, just mark your contribution “Easter Offering for Missions” and bring or mail it to the church by Easter, April 4. ORGAN RECITALS There will be 30-minute meditative organ recitals at 12:05 p.m. Monday, March 29, 30 and 31 in the sanctuary. Lunch will be available in Pirtle Hall ($5) following each concert. Monday: Bradley Reznicek, organist at St. Andrew UMC in Plano. Tuesday: Donald Duncan, director of music ministry and organist at Tyler’s First Presbyterian Church Wednesday: Dr. Brian Campbell, our new organist and associate music director GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 2 Journey to the Cross is a self-guided journey which will carry you through key moments in the last days of Jesus’ ministry. childrENeARly ChRiSTiAn AWAReneSS early Christian Awareness, or e.C.A. for short, is a sunday school curriculum for babies 6–24 months old. through a series of songs and visual aids, our youngest members can learn about God’s love for us and all he created. Classes are beginning now. if you would like your child to participate in this wonderful program please complete an enrollment card which can be picked up on sunday mornings in the nursery area or during the week in the Children’s Ministry office. BEauty for ashEs beauty for Ashes is an art exhibit that will benefit local churches destroyed in the recent string of arson. it will feature artwork created by college students and the public which will be displayed from 1–7 p.m. April 9. Admission is $5 and students are free. some artwork will be for sale and some will be auctioned during a silent auction. bidding is from 1–6 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to churches that burned.

the Wesley Foundation, Artreach and Marvin are sponsoring the event. the Wesley Foundation is a Christian campus ministry at tyler Junior College and the University of texas at tyler. Artreach is a faith-based art program for the homeless.

timE-starvEd marriagEslooking for a follow-up to the Feb. 20 marriage conference? learn from relationship experts drs. les and leslie Parrott how to make the most of the time you have with your spouse through a study of their book YourTime-StarvedMarriage. Join other Marvin couples in a small group experience from 6–7 p.m. on Wednesdays for four weeks beginning April 7 at the church. Meetings will include video presentations from the Parrotts and discussion. Group facilitators are dr. doug and Gina baker. Workbooks are $5 each and can be purchased at the first meeting. the study is not about being more productive, but about being more connected as a couple. sign up on-line or at the Welcome Center.

NEw mEmBEr chEck-iN those who have joined the church since october 2009 are invited to bring their network books and new member notebooks to the Connection room April 11 for a “check-in” conversation with church staff and spiritual formation team members. For new members who have questions about ministry possibilities and interests or have not yet participated

in their “Five Questions” conversation, this will be a great opportunity to get caught up and learn about new ministry possibilities at Marvin. light breakfast, snacks and coffee will be served.

coNNEctiNg BEliEfs classWe promise when we join the church to support it with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Come learn more about these spiritual practices and some practical tools for application from our Marvin clergy. the class begins April 18 and continues through May 16 in the Connection room during the sunday school hour. new and prospective members are encouraged to attend, but everyone is welcome.

We need volunteers to help with children’s music during Sunday School. second- through fourth-graders have music at 9:50 a.m. in the third-floor assembly room.
