SUPERSTAR BOY BAND, MCFLY, FLEW INTO RADIO CITY 96.7 LAST MONTH FOR ANINTIMATE GIG IN THE LIVE LOUNGE WITH A SELECTION OF VIP GUESTS. The hearthrob band, consists of Tom Fletcher (leadvocals and guitar), Danny Jones (lead vocals andguitar), Dougie Poynter (backing vocals and bassguitar) and Harry Judd (drums). Of course LifestyleMonthly was invited along to chat to the mostsought after boy band in Britain ahead of theirAbove the Noise Tour for a five minute chat.Tom and Danny sang a few of their favourite tracksincluding Shine the Light, their classic, All About Youand their new single, That’s The Truth, which isreleased on March 6th as part of their new album.

So you’ve been away for a while making the newalbum, in that time we’ve seen bands such as JLSand The Wanted emerge, do you feel any pressureto change your style of music or anything ?Tom: No not at all, we took two years out to makethe new album, we didn’t think about anyone oranything else, we were just working on our music.

What can people expect from your tour?Danny: McFly Ooh, we’ve not really thought aboutit yet, we’ll just do the best we can.Dougie: Yeah, just us doing out thing. We lovegoing on tour and seeing all our fans.Danny: It’s so long since we did arenas, I can’tremember what we did last time… but we willdefinitely put on the best show possible.Tom: Every show we ever do we always try and dosomething new. We have a few dates in Europeand then we have a big chunk of time to come and rehearse for the arena tours and sowe’ll decide exactly what we’re doing then.

Is it more scary doing an intimate gig like this (25people) rather than performing to a vast crowdwhere you only see the first few rows?Danny: Yes this is far more intimidating as you guyscould see every mistake we made. But when wedo big arenas it’s really exciting and we can’t waitto get out on stage and feel the atmosphere. Theworse bit is the last few minutes before you go onstage and you are waiting for the curtain to go up.That’s the worst.

If you were a girl what fashion would suit you bestHarry: Ooh a kitten heel I think.Tom: Skinny jeggings - look I’m wearing them now!Dougie: Oh definitely high heels.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever given you?Danny: We love everything our fans give us.However I think there was this one time we got avery strange cake. I’ll say no more.

The latest addition to Liverpool One's impressive line up ofrestaurants is Sofrito offering mediterranean cuisine. My friendand I went for lunch on a Thursday and the restaurant wasbusy and had a nice atmosphere, despite the 80s soundtracktinkering in the background.

The decor is very pleasant, very clean and easy on the eye, warm wooden tables and chairs and cool pink and greenwalls, reflecting the colours of a warm sunset over themediterranean landscape. The staff are very friendly andattentive, my little girl of 21 months accompanied us and wasimmediately offered a high chair and a juice before we evensat down, That was impressive.

There is an A la carte menu and a lunchtime special offeringtwo courses for £10 on a Tuesday.

Everything on offer looked appetizing which made it difficultto choose. For starters we shared a Greek board of tzarziki, humous, taramasalata, olives, grilled halloumi, salad andpitta bread. It was a sharing platter but to be honest wewere both so hungry we were fighting over it!

For mains my friend had the leek, wild mushroom andasparagus risotto while I opted for the pollo alla creme, panfried strips of chicken breast in a white wine and creamsauce with wild and basmatti rice. It was so delicious that mydaughter decided to eat half of it for me, despite having herown generous portion of fresh chicken breast and crunchy

fries to herself (from theexcellent children's menu)

The food tasted fresh and wasadequately seasoned. Thepresentation was lovely, and Idid admire the lovely crockery,in particular the huge, sparklingwhite bowls in which our mealswere served in.

Despite my daughter spilling adrink and using up far toomany serviettes, the meal waseasy and very enjoyable. Myfriend and I were both too fullfor desert, thanks to thegenerous portions, but we

could have had anything from traditional raspberry cremebrulee, cheesecake of the day, homemade bread andbutter pudding or chocolate brownie.

The baby was brought some real vanilla ice cream which sheloved and refused to share!

Sofrito is perfect for a lunch treat with friends or businesscolleagues during the day, at night the ambiance is relaxingand warm, whether you are having a pre theatre meal or arelaxing night out. A satisfying meal is guaranteed by all.

You are all probably familiar with the Liverpool’s iconicSuper Lamb Banana, but how many know about theEuropean Blue Banana? Well, you should, because it maychange the way you view our place in the world up here inthe North West. The story begins a long time ago in a landfar away – well, actually France in 1989, where geographerRoger Brunet was trying to make sense of the growingEuropean economy. When he took a close look at where thewealth of Europe is actually created he found an almostcontinuous urbanized region of 110 million people stretchingfrom Milan in Northern Italy, through Germany and the LowCountries, crossing over the North Sea into the Midlands

and the North of England and ending in – Liverpool! Theshape of this super-wealthy region was roughly bananashaped, somebody coloured it blue from the EU flag and,hey presto, you have the famous Blue Banana. Brunet’smessage to the French Government was simple – stopfocusing on Paris as the centre of the world, you’re not evenon the economic map! Well, something similar tends tohappen to us “provincials” in the North West, alwaysassuming we have to play second fiddle to the might SouthEast on the other side of the so called North-South divide.Instead we should be taking advantage of the Blue Bananasuper-region of which we are an integral part. After all, ourmixed economy in the North West is much closer to thisEuropean backbone than it is to the financial services focusof London. So if you want to grow your local business intonew territories, think of going East on easyJet from JohnLennon, not South on Virgin Trains! Bon Voyage!

It’s hard to believe but almost a third of everything we stick in our bins is food – stuff whichcould either have been eaten or, in many cases, at least home composted.

The stats get worse. A survey of homes across Merseyside and Halton shows that every weekwe create a veritable mountain of organic waste (2,000 tonnes worth to be exact) – much ofit perfectly good food.

It means that, out of the 11 kilos of waste we put in our bins every week, over 3 kilos (or theequivalent weight of three bags of sugar) is a combination of leftover meat, fruit and veg, otherfood or peelings, teabags and eggshells – food which could either have been eaten or, with theexception of fish and meat, composted.

Getting us to change our habits is an uphill struggle – even with the simple message that peopleare throwing money away (research shows we bin a third of all the food we buy – costing theaverage household £600 a year) or the environmental issue about having to bury all that wastein landfill (at around a cost of almost £50 a tonne to the tax payer).

Undaunted, the team in charge of transforming Merseyside’s track record are determined toturn this food waste mountain in to a molehill.

Launched on Merseyside two years ago, the national Love Food, Hate Waste campaign has usedjust about all the weapons in the campaigner’s armoury to get the food waste message to theregion’s householders and it’s been working. They’ve so far persuaded Merseysiders to reducethe food waste mountain by 32,000 tonnes - and they’ve got a further trick up their sleeves.

From March waste officers in Merseyside and Halton will be counting on people power to getthe campaign messages across.Working with Liverpool-based Faiths4Change, the campaign willdeliver training workshops to Council recycling officers and community groups within eachsix districts across Merseyside and Halton.

These “champions” will then spread the message to residents and communities acrossMerseyside and Halton, and will hopefully encourage a greater number of people to takepractical steps to reduce the amount of food waste they generate at home.

Carl Beer, the Director of Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority, said:“Over the past 20 or somonths we’ve made good progress with the campaign. By training up local enthusiasts we’rehoping that the message will continue to be told and heard.”

Whether it’s putting the recycling out or re-using plastic bags, most of us like to think we’redoing ‘our bit’ for the environment. But, say campaigners, if we’re ever goingto nail the region’s waste problems, we’ve got to do just a little bit more.

Oh I don't know what is wrong withme, I just can't seem to get myself intogear this month. The weather has beenso dreary and depressing it seems as ifthe cold has gone on too long and mybody has had enough. I lack motivationand sleep, which doesn't help. Kane isvery attentive, he can sense when I amnot up to being thrown around andgives me gently lunges with dumb bells. At least I am keeping the body movingand exercising, he says. As I write this itis half term, it's difficult juggling the kidsbeing off school and running themagazine AND finding the time to go

to the gym. Why can't I be like those TVcelebrities who drop three dress sizeswhen they sneeze? I always gave theexcuse that if I had a personal trainer Iwould be skinny but I am not. I am definitely slimmer and certainlyfitter. I feel better in myself but am soannoyed with myself for not sheddingthat extra stone I wanted. Kane says Ihave to drink green tea (bleugh) andstop ordering my lattes. I know, I know. Iam trying but come on, I need sometreats in my life. But I am letting myselfdown. On a positive note Kane has taught mesome brilliant stomach exercises -which I have started to do every night. So there may be some light at the endof this and my tummy may start toshrink. I haven't had a flat stomach for20 years, it would be amazing if I canachieve that. Next week is weigh in…somehow I don't think I am the biggestloser. The new season will launch me tonew motivational heights. Come on, I can do this.
