NSPCC Schools Service – the future of child

protection

Page 10: Martin Roberts, NSPCC - Landscapes for Life Conference 2016

That’s why we’ve developed the NSPCC Schools Service. This pioneering new approach

aims to prevent abuse and help all children by giving them the confidence to

speak out.

Many primary school children are suffering abuse and neglect, yet they can wait months, or even years, before contacting us or getting any kind of help.

These are the children you see going to school in the morning, children who live on your street and are part of your community. Those who do find the courage to speak out are often in their teens before they contact ChildLine. Yet they tell us about abuse that started years earlier.

These children are too frightened, too vulnerable, to seek help when the abuse takes place. If they can’t reach out to us, we have to reach out to them.

Trained Schools Service volunteers will go into every primary school in Somerset to: •Help younger children understand and recognise what is and isn’t normal behaviour

•Give them the confidence to talk about it•Help them recognise that abuse is wrong and is never their fault •Let them know who they can talk to.

If just one child is saved from the abuse that the NSPCC see on a regular basis, then your sponsorship will have literally bought more than money can normally buy.

It will have given an innocent child the kind of childhood that we would all wish for them.
