CIVIL RIGHTS RALLY IN WASHINGTON

• Martin Luther King Jr. walked in the Civil Rights Rally in Washington

• At the rally King said “Let Freedom Ring”

• Even before the March of Washington King would

use the phrase “I Have a Dream” but at the March

AT A YOUNG AGE• Even at a young age King was good a public speaking

• He won first place in a speaker’s contest

• When Martin was a kid the white bus drivers told the black kids

they need to sit in the back of the bus. Martin did not like this

he thought it was unfair

“SIT-IN” MOVEMENT

• This movement started because black students were being segregated at lunch counters in city stores.

• Martin Luther King Jr. thought that was wrong. Black students shouldn’t be segregated at a lunch counter

because of the color of their skin
