The wall is built using concrete blocks tied to the steel portal column at one end and to an secondary steel stability post at the other end. The wall length is in the order of 7m, broken by a double door at approximately one third from the portal

column end. A near vertical crack has developed from the lintel bearing to the top of the wall. This is shown on the attached sketch 35913/SK01.

We believe the crack has developed in response to normal building thermal movements, possibly aggravated by the occasional collision from fork lift truck movements in the factory. We advised you that the crack does not affect the stability of the wall, nevertheless it would be prudent to provide nominal steel bar stitching across the crack before pointing and re-decorating. These ties are to help distribute the movement from the crack back into the wall to stop fretting on the crack line in the future.

We have suggested Helifix Crack Stitching as a recognised proven proprietary crack repair system. Details are shown on the attached PDF copy of the manufacturers literature for your reference.
