Martha and Danna work with Ebby HallidayRealtors, the number one real estate company inDallas, and they’ve been the number one teamsince 2000. Martha has an MBA from SouthernMethodist University and got into the businessin 1980 after spending time searching forinvestment properties. For her, it was a labor oflove. Her husband already provided well for thefamily and she had earned a master’s degree, soshe had the means and the freedom to pursue

any career that ignited her interest. Real estateturned out to be one of the things she loved,chiefly because it allowed her to spend her daysinteracting with others, and helping them toachieve their most heartfelt dreams.

Danna entered the real estate field five yearslater after studying real estate at the Universityof North Texas. The business was a perfect fitfrom the start, since Danna has an uncontainableenergy and a natural facility for talking withpeople. She started her career with a largeinternational firm and, as soon as she hadestablished her own success story, she beganworking in concert with her mother.

Together, Danna and Martha are lovingly andrespectfully referred to as the pit bull and thegolden retriever, Martha says. Danna is a verybottom-line sort of person, which resonateswith many younger buyers. At the other end ofthe spectrum are people who are downsizingand leaving the homes they’ve had for decades.Those people need a considerable amount ofhandholding and nurturing—the things inwhich Martha excels. Somehow, even withoutmuch planning, there is a natural synergy in theway the two women work together.

“We are in sync,” Martha says. “We don’t haveto discuss who will take which client. We just

do it.” The pair is supported by a marketingassistant, a professional photographer, and onefull time assistant who handles all of thepaperwork. The team takes care of the behind-the-scenes action so that Martha and Danna cando what they do exceedingly well—be out inthe world meeting people and making deals.

“This is a contact sport,” Martha says. “It willnever be a virtual business, because you have tobe out there in front of the people.”
