Widowed by him, moved to Salem and lived with the Clifford Family

Married Giles Corey in 1690

Could be the reason disliked by many in Salem

Might not have been hers, could have been an Native American she took in

WITCH TRIALS BEGIN Accused March 11, 1692

Rev. Parris asked the girls to name another witch Claimed Martha Corey was one

Delegation was sent to clear up what they thought would be a misunderstanding

Responded sarcastically, creating the assumption she was guilty

A warrant was sent for arrest Sent to Boston Jail

MARTHA’S TRIAL•Many came to testify against her

•Her own husband, also accused, testified against her

•During the trial, many “bewitched” girls were there

•Whatever Martha did, the girls mocked her claiming Martha was making them do it

Giles was pressed to death September 19, 1692
