This year’s parade theme is “Marshmallow Legends.” A few local legends have been illustrated by Gran Roberts of Albion and formerly of Ligonier. The illustration can be seen on the cover.

Roberts included Happy the Marshmallow, the clock at Triangle Park, Glen Steele and Mary Schlotterback.

Steele, a West Noble graduate, was an All-American defensive end for the University of Michigan and played for the team when it was the undefeated national

champion in 1997. He was drafted in the fourth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1998 NFL Draft and played for them for six years.

Schlotterback operated Schlotterback’s Grocery for 67 years until she retired in 1989. Many Ligonier locals have fond memories of her sweeping the sidewalk in front of her store, the penny candies she sold and her world-famous pretzel rods.

Expect to see even more “Marshmallow Legends” at the Grand Parade on Monday at 2 p.m.

marshals for the Ligonier Marshmallow Festival can usually be found on the basket-ball court. West Noble boys basketball coach Jim Best and girls basketball coach Dale Marano will be honored for their success on the court for the 2013-14 basket-

ball season.Best led his team to a sectional final

and an 18-6 season. The Chargers were 8-2 in conference play, a record only beat by Westview and Prairie Heights.

Marano led the Lady Chargers to a 6-4 conference record and 11-10 overall record.

It’s Marshmallow Festival time so that means the kids are back in school.

Has your child or teenager had a recent eye exam? For proper learning, your child needs paper, pencils and GOOD VISION!

Have your child’s eyes tested yearly…even if they have not had vision issues in the past. Remember, a screening is not a substitute for a thorough eye examination.

Please call one of our three offices to schedule your child’s eye exam.
