Over 125 high school students from 5 area school districts explored careers in the construction industry thanks to Staab Construction. Several construction trade businesses were onsite to help students learn more about this industry and related fields of work through hands-on demonstrations, simulation activities, and presentations, including skill building opportunities through an apprenticeship program.

Over 450 middle school students from Auburndale, Granton, Marshfield, Columbus Catholic and Pittsville participated in the 6th annual North Central WI “Heavy Metal” tour. These students and educators toured several businesses to learn more about the companies located in the Marshfield area. This partnership between educators and the business community gave businesses the chance to showcase their facilities and workforce opportunities while exposing students to a variety of industrial career options.

The Reality StoreNearly 600 middle school students from Auburndale, Columbus Catholic, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Pittsville, Marshfield, Spencer, Immanuel Lutheran, St. Joseph’s Catholic, and Trinity Lutheran schools were presented with the challenge of balancing a monthly budget during the 2018 Reality Stores.

Students were assigned an income and family scenario and learned to calculate their net monthly income from a gross salary. With their budget in hand, they visited the store to arrange for housing, utilities, transportation, childcare, and groceries – basically, all the monthly expenses a household faces. The students learned how quickly expenses add up, and students began to understand the importance of education and career choices. Thanks to the 60 business volunteers who helped bring this hands-on learning experience to area eighth graders.

Marshfield Young ProfessionalsThe Marshfield Young Professionals (MYP) is a personal and professional development program of MACCI that encourages young business people to

interact socially, exchange ideas, share common interests, learn more about the area’s business community, and engage in the community’s future. The mission of MYP is to engage and empower young professionals through community, professional, and social opportunities; creating and promoting an environment to attract and retain professionals. This group’s membership continues to grow significantly through awareness, business and community involvement.

Youth Apprenticeship

Health Career Connections is a yearlong job shadowing program where area high school seniors explored health care careers at area businesses. After completing this program, these students were able to make informed career decisions thanks to our participating businesses: Back to Bliss, Bents Chiropractic, Companion Day Services, Dental Clinic of Marshfield, Eyecare Center of Marshfield, Health In Motion, High Street Salon Spa Travel, Marshfield Clinic Health System YMCA, Marshfield Clinic Pharmacy on Central, Marshfield Medical Center, Prairie Run Dental, Rembs Funeral Home, Shopko Pharmacy, Stoney River Assisted Living & Memory Care, Three Oaks Health Services, Total Body Fitness, and Walgreen’s Pharmacy.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT: Training and development opportunities that meet the workforce needs of business.

The Marshfield Area Human Resource Association (MAHRA) provides a network for business and industry professionals to share human resource and other information of mutual concern. When recruiting someone to our community, the

resume of a trailing spouse or significant other is shared with our MAHRA members, assisting them in finding quality employment in the Marshfield area. Additionally, MACCI provided community tours for many high level candidates looking to make the Marshfield area their new home.

Marshfield Area HumanResources Association

Wisconsin’s Youth Apprenticeship program is a part of a statewide School-to-Career initiative. In 2018, over 50 high school students received hands-on learning, along with related classroom instruction, in the following occupational areas of interest: Agriculture, Finance, Health, Science, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology,

Manufacturing, Transportation, Distribution & Logistics, Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM), Architecture & Construction, and Manufacturing.
