Questions And Consequences

Married or Bound?

Who can marry? [a scriptural right] • Someone who has never been married

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 – “even if she does depart…”− “depart” is Greek “chorizo”, which means divorce!

• Someone whose mate has died • Someone who divorces a mate for fornication

− the result of “depart” is to be “unmarried” [v. 11]− “if she does depart” – sinful, per command in v .10!

• Someone who is reconciling

• “remain unmarried” OR • “be reconciled” (remarry)

Married or Bound?

Who can marry? [a scriptural right]

• Someone who has been “put away” Who cannot marry? [no scriptural right]

“Put away” clarifies “is divorced” [passive]!Commits Adultery!

− Greek is “chorizo”; in this case, the woman did not do the divorcing, but divorce was enacted on her− in English, “is divorced” describes situation of both; in the Greek here, it describes only the “put away”− question of who received divorce, not who gave it
