Dear families and community members,

Welcome back to Maroona Primary School for the 2021 school year. I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year. Spe-cial welcome to the McDougall family; Sean, Leila and Vincent—it’s great to officially have you in our school community. Welcome, also, to our other new Foundation students, Tess and Fletch-er. After navigating our way through the uncertainty of 2020, I am cautiously hopeful that 2021 will be less stressful for all and that our school commu-nity will be able to endure, no matter what hap-pens. There are a number of updates in the de-partment of education school operations guide that impact on our school. These include: there are no restrictions on visitors enter-

ing the school, providing that they sign in using one of the sign in books at the entry to each building and that we do not exceed the limit of 1 person per 2 square metres

Excursions are permitted across Victoria Staff and students will continue to practise good hygiene and students must stay home if they are exhibiting any coronavirus symptoms.

Next week all students will attend swimming les-sons at the outdoor pool. Permission notes will be sent home on Thursday and Friday this week with all the information. We will be departing the outdoor pool at 2:45 on Monday and Friday and 2:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday., please let us know if you’d like to pick your child up from the pool.

During the first two weeks of the school year we will complete our ‘good beginnings’ program which will culminate in a mission statement launch on Friday the 12th of February. More in-formation about this event will be sent home next week (please save the date). Some other things to note for the beginning of the year: all students should have a broad brimmed

hat. Students without a hat are unable to play in the playground at morning tea or lunch.

Healthy, rubbish free lunches are encour-aged at Maroona. These practices are rela-tively simple things that we can do that help us be successful learners and environ-mentally responsible citizens

Parent involvement and engagement is welcomed at our school. My philosophy is “the more people involved in the learning, the richer the experience”. Please talk to myself, Jacqui or Ange about how you can be involved in our school. The benefits to your child’s learning are enormous

Finally, it was wonderful to come together at the end of last year and celebrate as a community.
