I. Fashion’s Night Downtown (Boulder) Update - The event will take place Thursday, August 29. Retailers who want to be included on the reusable bags (for distribution at CU and throughout downtown prior to the event) must pay $150 by June 14 deadline. Those who pay will also be mentioned by name in 5280 Magazine’s August issue and other print marketing. At the last meeting, committee decided on artwork (attached). Next meeting to go over fashion show logistics and to pass out collateral pieces will happen July 25 at 9 a.m.
II. Brand Marketing (collateral) Review. Attached are 5280’s June & July ads as well as concepts for August ad. Committee liked “Gluten Free before it was cool” concept and thought the dessert angle worked best. Terri will reach out to Tee & Cakes to have them design something fun.
9News generic branding spot for April looked good to committee. Same spot will run for the July flight: http://gannett.wistia.com/medias/0z428388yd. Committee also thought Open Arts spot from last year worked well (http://gannett.wistia.com/m/hH5ePY) . Terri will work with 9news to update photos and details for this year but essentially spot will remain the same.
III. Event Marketing (collateral) Review. Attached are samples of current marketing pieces including the summer magnet mailer, Noon Tunes postcard, Daily Camera ads (Bands on the Bricks, Noon Tunes & Pearl Street Mile), Open Arts Fest, Pandora flash ad. Marketing Committee enjoyed the three variations of the Pandora audio ads.
IV. Advertising Review / Update. Updated Flowchart attached. Upcoming marketing includes: August 5280 ads (branding & FND), 9news – two week run beginning the week of July 8th, DenverPost.com also beginning the week of July 8th (promoting Open Arts Fest). July regional publications (geo targeted issues of 0, Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Real Simple, Bon Appetit, Elle Décor) – general branding with Open Arts Fest tag.
V. Event Update - One sheet overview attached. Anna noted that the West End 3K went well. There were 260 runners (2012 numbers were just over 300). Considering that the event was moved up an entire month, numbers looked good. Nice coverage of the race in the Daily

Camera. Next up is the Pearl Street Mile (July 10). This race will include a downtown business employee wave. Netwon Running is manufacturing a trophy. Immediately following the Pearl Street Mile is Bands on the Bricks with a performance by That Eighties Band. Bands on the Bricks kicks off season tomorrow (June 12). DBI is hosting a kickoff party starting at 5PM in the Beer Garden. West Flanders will be providing light apps. West Flanders is also the featured beer for the month. DBI members receive a total of four beer/wine drink coupons per company. New this year, hear song samples of all the bands performing at Bands (and Noon Tunes) on our websites. Anna is looking for volunteers for all of our summer events. She has created a volunteer list (see attached sheet for more information) for a complete list of opportunities.
VI. Social Media / Website stats - Dashboard attached. Terri and Taylor looking for committee input on the type of information that is being reported. Committee suggested pages people are vising; where people are coming from (geographically); and overall, not necessarily the numbers information as much as the content information. Terri noted drop off in mobile traffic. She will touch base with Geocentric (Citylight software provider) to seek insights. More information to follow.
VII. Visitor Information Data / Gift Card stats - charts attached. Interactions at the Visitor Information Center in May were down about 10%. Downtown retail continues to be #1 inquiry followed by dining and “general info.” Saturdays are the busiest days of the week for visitor interactions with our ambassadors and Tuesdays are the slowest. Downtown Boulder Guide Book requests (through our leads program with Visit Denver) are averaging 142 requests a week and of those we are sending the electronic guide / newsletter to approximately 109 and mailing guide books to the rest. Overall, requests for the guides are up 10% compared to May 2012. Sending lots of them to Canada and other international destinations. Receiving most inquiries from Texas, Colorado, Illinois and Florida.
Gif t Card stats. May sales numbers were just slightly higher than 2012 – up by almost 1%. Redemptions in May were up 11%. Top dollar amount redeemers continue to stay consistent: Liquor Mart, Cheesecake Factory, Hapa & Peppercorn.
VIII. Other Business
a. Last week, the marketing manager at the Cherry Creek Shopping Mall decided that our guides were “competition” and pulled our contract to have them distributed there (at the visitor information center). Donna suggested that we reach out to the visitor center at Red Rocks. Mary Ann said that it used to be a Colorado Tourism location but Red Rocks recently took it over internally. Terri will reach out.
b. The Business Journals are hosting a Social Madness competition. We registered and were accepted. Details attached. – Based on our collective social following of Twitter plus FB we are competing under the ‘Large’ company category. Right now we are #8. We have to stay in the top eight to advance. We have until June 17 to make it to round 2. From there, the top eight go to a national competition and the overall company winner receives a $10, 000 donation to the charity of its choice.
c. New version of the Tear Off Map (attached) is at the printer. The previous version was 8 X 14. This time we are trying 11X17. Directory maps on the mall are also being updated by the same artist. Updated directories will be installed in a few weeks!
d. There will be no marketing meeting in August! Next one is scheduled for July 9th.
e. Donna: There are new electronic parking signs up in front of the garages. This will allow for variable messaging – including information on how many spots are available and what other garages are open.

f. Committee member also mentioned that Steamboat Springs also had ‘Welcome’ signs up for large group that was in town visiting. Suggestion was to maybe have some signs up for larger groups we know will be coming to downtown. Mary Ann suggested the upcoming softball tournament. Terri will look into potential groups to ‘welcome.’
g. Mary Ann: Committee is invited to the 2012-2013 Visitor Survey Results Presentation that will be held on Thursday, June 20th at 4:30PM (Chamber/CVB offices at Pearl & Folsom). RRC Associates will be present results from a 12 month survey that started in April 2012. Survey kiosks were located throughout Boulder – including one in the downtown visitor center.
