“When everything’s gone, there’s nothing to lose”
By Andrew Marshall, Jack Johnson and Shaun Clarke
Target Audience• The characters in the movie are an ‘E’ on the grade classification, this
means it will appeal more to a target audience of ‘C1/C2’ because middle class viewers will sympathize and empathize with the characters. Also all of the characters are representing real people so we want our target audience to be able to relate with some of the qualities of the characters. We would also aim this movie at teenagers because they would be able to relate to the issues raised and the emotions that people go through when tackling these problems. We are aiming at this target audience because as teenagers, we feel that there is a niché in the film industry for a film that targets a younger audience and this tackles some issues that teenagers are met with. We feel that a movie including issues to do with poverty in Britain and theft especially during a period of recession which is something many people can relate to. We think that with the context of the film, it would be certified a 15. This would be a perfect certificate for us because this would be targeting our audience.
Plot
• Micky is an 18 year old teen. Lucy, his mother is suffering from manic depression because of the death of her husband (Steve), this means she needs constant care and attention. Steve (ex-gang leader of ‘The Jonnies’) was murdered when Micky was 13 due to a gang related crime.
• Micky, now thinks he must commit crimes e.g robbery and muggings to raise money to support him and his mother. He also seeks revenge for his fathers death against ‘The Burger Bar’ gang.
• Throughout his life struggle he meets a girl called Rachel who he later falls in love with. Later in the film Rachel is killed in a drive-by, this causes Micky to find out members of ‘The Burger Bar’ and get revenge. In the process of this Micky himself is murdered leaving his mother by herself.

Institutions
• We took our inspiration from Shane Meadows who was successful in a number of low-budget films therefore production companies that have worked with him before, would be more likely to work with us.
• As our film falls in the category of a low budget film, it will comment on society and the issues raised in everyday life, production companies such as Big Arty, UK film council would be ideal for our film. These particular production companies are notoriously known for backing films that fall into the category of social-realism genre.

Representation
• Our film is British and the audience will be able to see that from certain aspects included in the trailer.
• This will also represent young people and the way they struggle through a lower standard of living. It also shows how real issues have an effect on young people such as gang related crimes which in this case leads to theft and death.
• Representation of youth will be portrayed by using characters of a younger age.
• Representation of Britain will be shown from the environment of the setting and British actors.
Research• We decided to research film trailers such as ‘Dead mans shoes’ and
‘This is England’ for influence on techniques used in low budget films. • We instantly decided the genre of our film to be social-realism as we
wanted a naturalistic effect to coincide with the plot and characters we created.
• Information gathered from the film trailers inspired us to research, in depth, Shane Meadows and what film companies he worked with to produce and distribute the films.
• Techniques such as the use of a voice over or sound bridge for an establishment (I.e Genre, age, location, main character, etc), are very effective. Also the use of Black and White (grey scale) in editing, this helps give a ‘past’ effect, to give the audience a clearer understanding of what they are watching.
Location• We will be filming around the streets of Burntwood in
the evening to give a feel of a dark dingy environment. • For the fighting scenes we will film at the back of the
‘One Stop’ which is located in Burntwood. This setting is at the back of a shop which feel will be ideal for the effect that we are looking for which is an environment that is grimy.
• For the opening scene we will use a street in Burton-On-Trent as down each side there are terrace houses, this will give the feel of a tunnel effect to draw the audience in.
ScriptWe decided that our trailer should have as minimal dialogue as possible as we wanted to create an intense approach and thought that a lot of speech would ruin it. Having decided on a voice over at the start due to research into film trailers, we feel that it will be very useful to establish to the audience, what the film will entail, and have them questioning from the start.
