This Peer Review Process is founded on three basic principles:
Methodology Integration
The project methodology serves as the common language shared by all project managers and their peer reviewers, so the peer review process uses required project artifacts as the basis for discussion. This ensures that the scope of each meeting can be well defined, and that both parties will have a good idea of what to expect.
True Peer to Peer Interaction
This process is only for experienced, professional project managers. The peer reviewer is not in a position of authority, so the project manager is not seeking approval. Rather, they are looking to gain from their reviewer's insights. Less experienced project managers and proxy project managers will receive coaches rather than peer reviewers. This ensures an environment of collaboration rather than competition.
Knowledge Exchange
While this process will improve the performance of individual projects, the ultimate goal is to improve the performance of project managers. Increased collaboration through peer review will help everyone learn faster. As the collective experiences of the PMO are shared with each individual manager, the performance of all future projects will be improved.
