Maritime Training

Training Excellence Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) manages a large and diverse fleet for a number of prestigious customers. This covers some of the world’s largest and most specialised vessels, including containers, offshore, bulk and LNG carriers, to name a few. In order to man these vessels professionally, BSM is focused on providing specialist skills and exceptional levels of training, which in turn deliver the highest levels of performance and efficiency.

“Providing a modern and rewarding training environment with great facilities enhances our learners’ experience and gives better results”

Training has always been one of our main pillars. By investing in our people to exceed the expectations of our customers, we ensure that all vessels under BSM management perform to the highest standards and meet the most demanding requirements of the industry today and will do so in the future.

BSM’s training personnel consists of trainers who are professionally qualified to international standards with years of experience.

BSM has a long-standing reputation for quality and continuous investment in training to support the development of competent and professional BSM seafarers, who in return provide customers with competitive advantages:

Training Facilities

“Nothing moves without the right people looking after your business”

All the Maritime Training Centres (MTCs) of BSM provide courses for all levels of ratings and officers to facilitate professional and personal development.

Training is ‘targeted’ at specific ranks to maintain an officer’s performance. Between shore-based courses, career progression is further enhanced on board through our Competency Management System. With special emphasis being placed on courses beyond STCW standards, the aim is to support and enhance development of our seafarers from the start of their careers to the highest possible level of achievement within their specific function. In addition to the training held at our MTCs, we also promote e-learning and online Computer Based Training, hold regular group seminars, specialised courses and workshops, ensuring the right skillsets are in place for our digital era.

Further, standard courses are offered to non-BSM customers or customised courses can be developed to any specific requirements.

Standardized Training Delivery

“BSM’s success lies in training, guiding, mentoring and continuously improving our people to be able to achieve higher professional standards”

Competency Management System

Our blended training programmes are supported through a structured ‘Competency Management System’ (CMS) that addresses all ranks on board each vessel type, including requirements for promotion.

The CMS is populated with practical onboard tasks, setting theory into practice to enhance the development of skills. Video viewings support training tasks and self-study.

Onboard Training Service

BSM has a team of dedicated onboard Training Superintendents, who are based in our Maritime Training Centres and provide a continuation of the shore-based training, when at sea.

Simulation training is of the utmost importance in modern shipping. With the wide range of possible operating systems present even across the same fleet and an ever-increasing number of processess becoming automated, it is vital that personnel are competent in handling the nuances of whichever vessel they are assigned to.

Via simulation training, nautical and engineering officers gain knowledge and the skills required to serve on board in today’s technology-led shipping environment.
