WarrantyThe Cummins Onan Limited Warrantyfor Marine Generators covers thegenerators for a period of five (5) yearsor 2,000 hours, whichever occurs first,from date of delivery to the first retailpurchaser. This coverage applies to theoriginal owner and all subsequentowners for the duration of thecoverage—at no additional charge ordeductibles for the customer. Parts,labor including diagnostic labor, limitedtravel, and removal and reinstallationare covered for the first and secondyears on virtually everything exceptroutine maintenance. Parts, labor andtravel on selected power train andgenerator parts are warranted for theremaining years or 2,000 hours.

The warranty is administered by theCummins Onan Distributor/Dealernetwork whom, in most cases, is thesame network that administers theCummins MerCruiser Diesel andCummins Marine propulsion enginewarranty, providing a one stop shop foryour power needs and service.

DiagnosticsThe diagnostic features were designedwith the customer in mind. Mostgenerators will trip a breaker whensomething has gone wrong, however,you’re never really sure what happened.With the information the diagnosticindicator provides, knowing whathappened may make the differencebetween enjoying your weekend outingor waiting for a service call. If a servicecall is required, the knowledge youhave to give the service technician willexpedite the repair and get you on yourway as quickly as possible. Our goal isto make boating even more enjoyable.

Cummins Onan generators have anumber of self-protective shutdownsincluding high engine coolanttemperature, high exhaust temperature,low oil pressure, over speed, overvoltage, no raw water flow, and manyothers.

Following a protective shutdown, thestatus light on the generator willrepeatedly blink a 1 or 2 digit code. Achart, mounted on the generator,provides an explanation of commonfaults such as high engine coolanttemperature, high exhaust temperature,or low oil pressure. Additional faultcodes and troubleshooting tips arelisted in the Operator’s Manual. You canalso view fault codes in text on thedigital display, if the boat is soequipped, or through networkcommunications on various displays.These fault codes assist the operator orservice personnel in evaluating a varietyof other operating conditions andservice checks. As many as 31 faultand warning codes can be displayed.Many times the boat owner is able todetermine the cause of the shutdownand fix it himself. If service is required,the boat owner has access todiagnostic information the serviceperson can use to assist in correctingthe problem.

Cummins Onan Digital Display

The Cummins Onan Digital Display,makes it easy for the user to monitorgenerator operation. The user can viewgenerator status, including AC voltage,AC frequency, coolant temperature, oilpressure, battery voltage, andgenerator hours; be alerted to a pre-alarm condition; and, if the generatorshuts down, view the notification anddiagnostic message in text. In addition,the panel provides a remote start/stopand a visual indication of generatorstatus to let you know the generatoris running, is in a pre-alarm mode, orhas stopped.

Starting ProcedureThe Cummins Onan smart technologymakes starting the generator easy andtrouble-free. The generator can bestarted from the start/stop switch whichis standard on every generator, or aremote-mounted start/stop switch aswith other QD models, or from thedigital display.

Starting—using thestart/stop switch

To start, simply push and hold the startswitch until the green light comes on;then the operator can release the startswitch. To turn off the generator, simplypush the stop switch to stop.

Starting—using the CumminsOnan Digital Display

The digital display is easy to turn on bysimply pressing any button on thedisplay. To start the generator, pushand hold the start button until theblinking green light stays on. To stop,press the stop button.

With a single touch of the start switch,the control automatically:

> Runs through a self check

> Activates fuel pump priming

> Checks engine coolant temperature

> Energizes glow plugs forappropriate amount of time basedon coolant temperature (2–15seconds)

> Begins cranking the starter

> Disengages starter automaticallywhen reaching 800 rpm

> Displays green run light whengenerator reaches 60/50 Hz

> Glow plugs remain on for 2–5seconds (post glow) after startbased on coolant temperature toimprove combustion and reducesmoke
