Dear Residents,

Thank you so much for taking the time to be engaged in your

community. We are looking forward to some projects breaking

ground this spring or early summer. While I know it’s frustrating

that government is slow, we run into challenges because we must

abide by state law. Additionally, we have to compete with the

private sector in getting both engineering and architectural companies

to work on County projects. We love hearing from you, so feel free

to reach out anytime.

Marilyn has been working on bringing natural gas to Mesquite since 2012 when she served as

an Assemblywoman in the Nevada Legislature and has continued working towards this goal

after becoming a Clark County Commissioner in 2016. Marilyn was able to see all the effort

come to fruition on February 13, 2019 as Danielle’s Chocolates & Popcorn became the first

business to use natural gas in Mesquite. Marilyn knew bringing natural gas to Mesquite

would serve as a benefit to attract diverse businesses to the area and would give homeowners

more options.

Resident of the Month A hero can be defined in many

ways, this month we’re happy to

recognize Luke Minogue for the

bravery and selfless act of

kindness he showed to a woman

in distress. On June 8, 2018 Luke

assisted in saving the life of a

woman who was contemplating

suicide while standing on a

bridge over the I-15. Luke called

the police and began talking

with her while he waited for an

officer to arrive. Even after the

officer arrived, Luke remained

on scene to help pursued her to

safety and assisted in detaining

her so she could receive medical

assistance. Shown in the

pictures, Lieutenant Jeff Stuart

(middle) and Officer Bradford

recognized Luke for his bravery.

surrounding mountainous terrain which draws

visitors from all over the world, and is popular for

those who enjoy hiking, off-roading, camping,

horseback riding and more.

You will also be able to stop at local organic

produce farms, honey producers, rivers, a local

rescue which is home to horses, pigs, emus, chickens

and geese; local artists, museums, fire department,

dining, living and so much more.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience

the valley in a unique way

On March 5, 2019 the Clark County Board of County Commissioners declared

March as Opioid Awareness Month. Clark County is the 4th highest in death related

incidents related to opioid abuse.

Marilyn was at the forefront encouraging everyone to get involved due to the crises taking

place with opioid abuse around the country in hopes to raise awareness to the issue.

March Declared National Opioid Awareness

Month in Clark County

Marilyn asked Jack Martin if the

Spring Mountain Youth Camp

would get involved in this

campaign and the students

created several beautiful pieces

of art to showcase the dangers of

abusing prescription drugs, those

pieces will be showcased at the

entrance of the Government

Center all month

The Clark County Fair and Rodeo is one of

the largest and most anticipated events we

have in our valley. There’s a lot of

entertainment ranging from the rodeo, piggy

races, fair games and rides, and of course a

delicious variety of food to choose from.

Visit http://www.ccfair.com/ for a complete

list of activities to choose from.

See the website for details: http://ccfair.com/

Many of our students spend a great portion

of their year caring for livestock which

teaches them about the hard labor and cost

that goes into being a farmer. They also

learn interview skills as they meet with

buyers. They then bring their animals and

are judged on showmanship and breed

standard of perfection.

Clark County Wetlands Park hosts

fieldtrips every Tuesday and Thursday and

serves over 3,000 students per school

year. Volunteers of the park along with

school personnel break into manageable

groups and go on an outdoor tour to view

the nature preserve, a bridge which

overlooks the Vegas wash; students learn

about habitats and are known to see the

wildlife such as birds, turtles and fish.

Recently, 3rd graders from Grant Bowler

had the opportunity to take a field trip

where they were able to see a soft

shelled turtle and owl. They also

learned to identify scat and animal

tracks.
