Maribyrnong Community Centre Update Newsletter
7 April, 2020
Hello from MNCC staff
As we come to terms with our need to be mindful of social distancing, many may be starting to feel overwhelmed. Many will also be missing family who don’t live with them, or the regular dinners with friends. There are ways to keep in touch such us organising FaceTime catch ups, or for those who don’t use social media, touching base via a phone call.
If you live alone connect with “Telecross”, which is a service that can provide you with a daily telephone call to check on your well-being. Call 1300 885 698 to arrange. If you’d like to volunteer for this service, please call Redcross.
Need help to use the Internet?
If you’re not sure how to connect with family and friends online, visit “Be Connected” (www.beconnected.esafety.gov.au). This website has great learning resources to help you find out how to navigate the web or use various apps.
Programs Online
Our aim was to re-commence programs and activities on Tuesday 14 April. However, as we continue to follow social distancing requirements, we are unable to provide a date when we will re-open. Whilst we’re closed we are organising some of our programs to be available online. Please check our webpage which will outline these programs and their start dates.
Please keep up to date by visiting our webpage or follow us on Facebook.
We value your contribution to our weekly newsletter. Please email us at [email protected] with your story, picture or tips on coping during this time.

Hello from Lucy (Tai Chi Instructor)
Hello from Lucy, Paul and our Tai Chi Yin/Yan fur cherubs Delilah & Roy. We are full of gratitude for our loved ones and good health during this unforeseen period.
Silver lining: - We have started growing herbs: mint/parsley, cat mint/grass & veggies soon. A miracle as nothing survived in past! Can't wait to join "Designing a Food Garden at Home & in the Community" - Hubby says my cooking has improved!! - We are practising Tai Chi daily & imagine our lovely group doing it together brings a smile to my face.
Wishing you all much blessings & happiness because a positive & uplifted spirit helps our immune system. Lots of virtual hugs,
Little Lucy.

Easy Recipes to make with the kids!
Marie Biscuit Chocolate Balls
Ingredients 1 pkt Marie biscuits, crushed 1 Cup shredded coconut 2 Tablespoons cocoa 1 can sweetened condensed milk Extra coconut for rolling Method Mix all ingredients in a bowl and roll into small ball shape. Roll balls in extra coconut or chocolate sprinkles. Place in fridge to chill. Apricot & Coconut Bites
Ingredients 200 g dried apricots 3/4 cup white chocolate chips 200 g sweetened condensed milk 1 cup desiccated coconut plus extra for rolling Method Chop dried apricots & white chocolate into small pieces. Add the white chocolate chips, condensed milk and coconut into a bowl and mix together until completely combined. The mixture should easily roll into tablespoon-sized balls (wet your hands first to make this easier). If the mixture is slightly too soft, add a little more coconut. Roll the balls in the extra coconut. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Yummy!
