Maribel My name is Maribel C. i have two daughters ages 17 and 20 and two grandsons. i was homeless for two years and
two months. i moved into permanent housing July 2015.
i became homeless when i lived in a market rate apartment and the rent was too high. When i couldn’t afford it i had to move out.
We lived in a motel room for a year prior to being transferred to Brookview House. At first when i came to Brookview House, i felt scared and i didn’t want to be there. After two to three weeks it became home.
Brookview put us back together as a family. They supported me through the death of my children’s father. They offered me moral support and counseling and let my family come and grieve with me. This was very important and special to me.
My experience with Brookview makes me very passionate about working with others. i am currently teaching in the Tech Goes Home program at Brookview. i teach families computer literacy skills in both spanish and english.
if i could describe Brookview House in one word - that would be: Amazing!Brookview House | Brand Identity Standards

boys and i entered Brookview House in February of 2015 and we moved into permanent housing december 2015. When i left the program Brookview always assured me if i needed anything they were just a phone call away.
i am a daycare teacher but even with a job i couldn’t afford the high rent in Boston. Brookview staff was very friendly and helpful during my time there. Brookview encouraged me not to give up and keep going.
i enjoy helping women that are in the same situation i was in. i currently teach the Tech Goes Home course at Brookview House and it has turned into a great success. Mirabel (my co-teacher) and i exceeded our recruitment goals for the course by going to all the daycare centers, bodegas, beauty parlors and barbershops in the neighborhood. We have a waiting list. i learned the computer skills and transferred it to others that needed it.
This is one of the things that Brookview continues to do in my life, “be a constant”. My children still attend the Above and Beyond Program. i’m very happy that i have succeeded so much after my struggle. i am working on my career goals and staying focused on keeping my family on track.

Message from the Chair
dear Friends,
You already know Brookview’s mission—to help homeless families find and maintain perma-nent homes by offering customized services for each family member.
You may realize that most homeless families are headed by single mothers - often without the support of friends or family. You probably also realize, as we do, that helping homeless families does more than just give individuals a helping hand. By helping a family become healthy, functional, and stable, we help each member become a productive member of the community and improve society as a whole.
This year, Massachusetts faces a crippling number of 4,500 homeless families. At Brookview, we know those families need immediate solutions, so we are taking matters into our own hands and breaking ground on a new building. that’s more families we can give a hand up. We know it’s a big undertaking, but we know that what we do works.
of course, expanding our programs and services requires a lot of help. We need you to help us continue to grow brookview’s common sense idea and change the world--one family at a time. Won’t you join us?
sincerely,

Girls WHo CodeAlexis, Age 16
The Girls Who Code program is really cool and fun. The curriculum is somewhat easy, but also challenging at the same time. The girls attending the program are really respectful and not full of drama. i realize that i made a good choice coming to this program to meet new friends and actually get along with females for a change. i’m not nervous about the staff because they are respectful and have helped me and others solve prob-lems within the program and outside of the program like with school.
When i first started the Brookview After-school program i thought the girls were going to start drama with me because my social views are different. i didn’t think it would be the best choice if i came here because i usually don’t get along with a lot of girls. i am always shy when i meet new people, and that is something that i am trying to work on. i was nervous i wouldn’t get along with the staff members because i didn’t know if they would be understanding and nice.
Girls Who Code is actually easy to me. i learned how to debug programs and also learned how to change x and y coordinates. i’m learning to make websites, video games and apps, and i also learned to add, multiply, divide, and subtract variables on this program.
i think this program will help me gain the skills to work along with girls my age and meet new people. it can also help keep my grades up and help me find a good job now that i am learning about computer software and technology.
