Have you ever wanted to try sculpting? Now’s your chance. Come join us for a fun filled evening. Local artist/sculptor Wendy Young will be teaching us how to sculpt “Honey Bun” bunny ornament. This is a great beginners project using a product called Quikwood. No need to feel intimidated, Wendy is a great instructor. She will walk you through the project step by step. PWP is purchasing all of the supplies for members only. Make sure that you have paid your 2017 dues, as there will be a $10.00 charge for all guests. It is very important that you contact Betty Lou Zimmerman at 717-258-3024 or Barb Lehman at [email protected] or 717-795-9845 with a yes I will attend the program or no I will not be attending by March 12th. You will need to bring the following supplies, a piece of parchment paper, a pointy clay tool or pencil, x-acto or clay knife. We will be sculpting only, no painting will be done at the program.

Hello Painter Friends! We have had our first meeting at our new location at the Carlisle Sertoma Club. Thank you to those who attended and stayed for the open painting. Thank you to Barb Lehman and Betty Lou Zimmerman for the wonderful lunch they provided. Just a few weekends ago, many gathered to paint Memory Boxes. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I expect to see more zentangling in our future. Thank you to Dottie Shultz and Judy Vetock for volunteering to lead the group for this worthy cause. I am sure that a good time was had by all in attendance. I am excited about our March program with Wendy Young. I hope you RSVP to join fellow PWP members! This project will jump start our SPRING!! Our next Board Meeting is Wednesday, April 12. At our last Board Meeting in February, we talked about having an open painting session from 12pm – 8pm, before and during our Board Meeting. I hope you will bring a project to Carlisle Sertoma Club on April 12 and enjoy time with other PWP members.

TOUCHING LIVES THROUGH CREATIVITY

www.memoryboxes.org On January 13, Dottie Shultz delivered 18 memory boxes to PinnacleHealth Harrisburg Hospital. Carol Henry delivered 10 small memory boxes to the Hershey Medical Center NICU on January 25. Hershey is using the small boxes for hand/foot molds. Nineteen PWP members and friends painted memory boxes on Saturday, February 18. In the morning we painted a zentangle project with Dottie Shultz. It was her own design with two large hearts symbolizing the parents and, where the hearts overlapped, a small heart symbolizing the baby. Members created their own designs inside the hearts and several members were able to finish two boxes. Zentangle was a new technique for many of the attendees and all enjoyed it. The afternoon program was Kim Christmas’ “Wooly Sheep” design taught with permission by Judy Vetock. We welcomed new members, Cheryl Kugler and Dorothy Ross, and guests and family members of Elaine Moran, Debra and Ashley Brazer and Elaine’s daughter, Joni Stoneroad. First-time painters Joni and Ashley were quick learners and did very well. Both patterns will be available at the March meeting and just maybe Betty Lou Zimmerman will share her delicious Chicken Corn Soup recipe. Messiah Village Art Display

Art Show and Tea Committee This is one of our most popular events of the year. Always fun to invite family and friends to join in the festivities and see the beautiful works of art created by our members. Check out our website for the list of the 2016 winners and Gallery.

Each year, we have a different theme and the committee has been known to share a few giggles while prepping for the fun! Contact Linda Kapp if you’d like to participate in the planning!

Several members participated and displayed their artwork at Messiah Village in December. The residents and staff look forward to the opportunity to purchase art by Penns Woods Painters. This year we will have art displayed in April, September and December. We will hang artwork on Monday, April 3rd @ 10 a.m. and take down on Monday, May 1 at 10 a.m. Remember, you set your price and we donate 10% of your sales to Messiah and withhold 6% for PA sales tax.

Our first Paint-In will be on Saturday, June 17th with Jane Allen teaching a mixed media original, "Birds of Encouragement - Trust." This project will be painted on a 5"x5"x2" canvas. The cost for members is $20. Friends and family can attend for $25. The registration form can be found in this newsletter. The deadline to register is May 30th. Penns Woods Painters General Membership Meeting Minutes Carlisle Area Sertoma Club, January 21, 2017 President: Linda Kapp called the meeting to order at 9:33am. Linda welcomed everyone to our new location and announced the housekeeping rules of our new location. There was no presentation for the Installation of the 2017 Officers as the past president was unavailable for the meeting. Linda thanked all of the outgoing officers for a job well done. The 2017 incoming officers were also thanked. Judy Vetock brought along a guest, Susan Davis, who is a former member of Keystone Painters. Secretary: Melissa Crowther – The November minutes were printed in the January newsletter for approval. Dottie Shultz made a motion to approve the minutes as printed. Jeannine Lewis seconded the motion. Motion carried. Treasurer: Dee DeLorenzo was absent, but sent the report via email to the members to review. The report was filed for audit. VP Programs: Barb Lehman and Betty Lou Zimmerman – Thanks to all who are attending today! Today’s program is UFO (unfinished objects) day for the members to bring unfinished projects to paint with your friends. Lunch was provided. At the March meeting, Wendy Young will be teaching a 2 hour bunny sculpture project with quick wood. In May, Penny Henry will teach at mixed media project. Membership: Doris Kohler – There are 29 members plus 1 lifetime member signed up for 2017. We are accepting renewals or new memberships. At the end of 2016, there were 49 members. Committees: Memory Boxes – Carol Henry and Judy Vetock announced that 109 boxes were given to hospitals in 2016. In 2015, we gave out 74. We are in need of small boxes, which the hospitals use to put hand/foot prints in for the families. More boxes need to be ordered. Memory Box Paint-In will be held on February 18th 9-4 at the Sertoma Club. Dottie Shultz will be teaching a Zentangle heart design in the morning. Judy Vetock is teaching a Kim Christmas design with Sheep and Flowers in the afternoon. You will need to provide your own lunch and supplies. RSVP to Judy by Feb 11th. Paint-Ins – Melissa Crowther announced the 2017 dates/teachers: June 17-Jane Allen, August 26-Bobbi Brady, and October 14-Judy Vetock. The June registration form will be in the next newsletter. Hospitality – A chairperson is needed for the position. Jeannine Lewis volunteered for the position at the meeting.

Plain solid color or unprinted boxed are the best suited. Ways and Means – Lois Eckert volunteered for the chair. Small Games license was not renewed for 2017. Hattie Ogle mentioned that 50/50 raffle was allowed within club meetings, but not for public events. Seminars – Joyce Gutierrez will be the chairperson. No events have been scheduled for 2017. Tea and Art Show – A chairperson/committee is needed. The event is scheduled for October 29, 2017. If interested, contact Linda Kapp. 2016 Checkbook Audit – Volunteers needed to perform audit. Jackie Nowak and Dottie Shultz volunteered at the meeting; contact with Dee will be made. Historian – We do not currently have a chairperson. The boxes of chapter history live at Lois Eckert’s house. A discussion was held at the last board meeting. The Board wishes to photograph and electronically keep the history. Volunteers are needed to look through the boxes. Webmaster/Publicity – Carol Henry has updated the website. A blurb was placed in The Sentinel about our meeting. Carol will be on vacation in February. Contact Judy Vetock if you need PWP emails sent out. Library Display – We will be displaying at the Simpson Library in Mechanicsburg during July. The library would like us to teach a Make It Take It Class. Messiah Art Display and Sale - An organizer is needed, please contact Linda Kapp if interested. We will be displaying in April, September and December this year. Nominating – Volunteers needed for selecting 2018 slate of officers.

Old Business - A cabinet was purchased for the new location. Linda’s husband will be assembling it at the meeting today. - Come Paint with Us – Carol Henry mentioned that in order to do this demo we need to access – Deco Art’s website. This needs to be tested via laptop using our camera system. - SDP approved our bylaws.
