Want to Lower Your Energy Bill? Did you know? Your TV uses electricity even when turned off. As does your stereo, coffee maker, gar-age-door opener, microwave oven, clock radio and other electronics. Yes, even chargers for cell phones and MP3 players siphon energy when plugged in—even if they are not charging a thing! What can you do? Plug more than one thing into a power strip. Unplug the power strip when not in use. Un-plug items prior to taking a trip. Turn off the water heater if you are gone more than three days. An electric water Heater can be shut off at the circuit-breaker panel, or set a gas heater to “vacation” or “away.” You will need a few hours to heat it up when you get back.
