Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting for Giving Tree Yoga & Wellness

as they opened their new location on Essex Street!Congratulations!

Creative Haverhill’s first ever Poetry Open Mic Night at the Paint and Wine Lounge was a smashing success! The event took place on Thursday, February 26 from 6:30-9:30 PM, and was funded in part by a grant from the Haverhill Cultural Council.

This follow up review from local poet Tom Miller sums up the evening, and how well it was received by the literary arts community.

“I wanted to thank Creative Haverhill for hosting the poetry event at the Wine and Paint last night. It is an excellent venue and I think you all did a wonderful job. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of participating.

I thought the readers were all very good with some being outstanding. I liked the diversity of subject and presentation. The pacing was excellent and the seven minute time slots really allowed poets to

showcase a variety of their work.

… as you can see it [poetry] is very much alive and owes much to organizations and venues like yours who provide opportunity and space for such creative minds to gather and express themselves.

I look forward to the next event!”

Creative Haverhill would like to thank our fabulous hosts at the Paint and Wine Lounge, the Haverhill Cultural Council for their support, HMF Printing in Ward Hill who donated the event fliers that were placed around town, and the gifted writers who came out to share their work. We have already begun planning for the next Poetry Open Mic night, which will likely take place at the end of May.

Poetry is Alive and Well in Haverhill!

Sarah Miller took the mic for the first time and was applauded wildly for her

heartfelt readings.

Shawna Kelley, owner of the Paint and Wine Lounge transformed her “classroom area” into a hip, dimly lit venue, with a coffee house atmosphere. Almost

forty poetry lovers ranging from teens to retired adults packed the house to hear live readings of

poetry, prose, spoken word, and short stories from sixteen gifted Haverhill area poets.

Did You Know? Screen actress Hedy Lamarr co-invented a “Secret Communications System” to prevent classified messages from being intercepted by enemy personnel. This “spread spectrum” technology was the precursor used for cellular telephones.

There are many successful and industrious women throughout history, but you only need to look to the membership of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce to find contemporary women doing amazing things for business, education and the community at large. From Senators to Business Owners, and Teachers to Golf Course Owners, and everything in between, the Greater Haverhill community benefits from the cooperative, innovative and supportive relationships that advance business and local causes and make the region so great! We salute you, ladies!
