The children at the back of the line did not get any food because they ran out. The point of the video clip was that you could feed 20 children for a few dollars, but we were more concerned about the five children at the end of the line with empty plates. There are still tears when we think about it. Second, the MCDF website had a brief paragraph that changed our world. their hearts is below:

Our partnership with MCDF is one of God taking our two fish

ministry in early 2009. As a family we started to talk about

sponsoring a child so they can go to school, but two things

changed all of that. .

clip where a small package of food was prepared to feed what

seemed like a large group of children. The children at the back

of the line did not get any food because they ran out. The point

of the video clip was that you could feed 20 children for a few

JANUARY 2011

McDonalds account (cont.) minds are the majority of diarrhea deaths (90% are children) are

tied to unclean water, and $1 invested in sanitation will give a

return of $9 (AKA Great Investment.)

We started thinking bigger and talking about how we could

sponsor an entire village. A village well allows children to attend

school since they would not need to walk miles and miles each

day to get water. A village well literally improves the health of

the community. A village well equips people to grow and sell

food from a garden. And then there is the eternal

impact………. At this point my wife’s words were, “Why are we

still talking about this? We must drill a village well!”

Fresh water saves lives, educates children and feeds people. A

well is the tangible love of God. We have been passionate about

drilling wells ever since. Let’s not do this one well at a

time. What would it take to buy a truck to drill our own

wells? We want to save and change lives. Do you have two fish

and five loaves to invest that could literally save a single life,

many lives, and perhaps generations?

It was truly a blessing to minister alongside the MCDT staff we

saw changed lives in the people of Zimbabwe and the lives of the

team. We are all ready to go back.

MCDF - Our 55 Year Journey with you all

Fifty five years ago, your fathers and grandfathers, and perhaps

some of you, helped send a couple of missionaries to our home

country Zimbabwe, then Southern Rhodesia. They initially

planned to work in the Zambezi valley, about 800miles North

West of us. My siblings and I were not even born then. When

they hit the ground, they were advised of a greater need in a very

remote area of the country in the South East. The plans had to

change. Focus accordingly shifted to the South East where New

Zealander missionaries had been overwhelmed by the work at a

new small mission station called Mashoko. This place is at the

fringe of my village where my grandfather, my father and now

my brothers have been successive headmen.

Lots of good work was done. As we look back, one of the biggest

blessings was the salvation of our parents: Tangston Matangira

and Mai Lee Sipelile. When the war of independence from

colonial Britain ravaged the country for 15 years, missionaries

were evacuated. Our parents were left with the keys to the

hospital and missionary housing. Soon, they were victims of both

the colonial forces and the freedom fighters (aka terrorists). My

father who drove the 10-ton mission truck hit a landmine and

only God knows how and why he survived. Later on, guns were

fired at my father in the thick of the night execution style. He

survived and escaped. Thirty four years later next month, it is

still a miracle we have never been able to unpack. One Dark

night, amidst a dusk to dawn curfew, with gun fire and flare

bullets cutting the nocturnal silence and darkness our family

escaped from the village through the forests for several days; only

choosing to travel in the dark of the night. When

we eventually made it to a peace haven in the next city, we knew

the Lord was on our side.

(Continued on next page)

Approx... 20,000 miles traveled, around 130 travel

hours, around 45 or so of these hours were on a bus made

for Japanese sized people with 3 nights spent on the bus.

About 1 ton of medical, school and other supplies

delivered in 40 duffels.

$16,000 +dollars plus of aid

different schools where we either had Robin Preach or

did VBS. Robin also preached 5 services, 2 leadership

seminars –where he addressed the issue of Polygamy in

HOW CAN I HELP THE VILLAGE?

Individuals, families, VBS groups, as

well as Sunday School Bible classes

can help in many ways.

Want to purchase a garden, a cow,

hens, a year’s schooling for an

orphan? Just to name a few. Maybe

you would like to pay for a borehole

(Well) or maybe solar panels to help

bring the water up from the well.

Thinking of something bigger? How

about a 5,000 gallon water tank? Solar

panels to pump the water into the tank

so that it runs out of a faucet?

Also, Shona bibles for the church

leadership as well as having some at

the churches for scripture readings?

They are purchased in Harare (the

capital city) and taken to the village.

Maybe these are too big? How about

buying a uniform for a student? School

supplies? Teachers need supplies too.

Long term goal is to raise enough

money to purchase a bigger bus to

transport the mission teams.

New Covenant Bible Church Team Commissioning Water Well Northside Team getting ready to help with brick molding (July 2010) (October 2010)

Five years later, when the war had ended, we returned to the village to rebury the bones of beloved relatives. Homes had

been razed down and the whole fabric of our community had also been destroyed. While the world saw only these, our

parents bemoaned something bigger that had also died - the visible, energetic church. Their hearts went out to God. In their

modest strength, they re-engaged our people to remember Christ and his timeless redeeming work. This was never

easy. God's faithfulness though prevailed.

The Journey of faith began with the leadership of Brother Greg Bondurant, Tim Pressler, Sandy Wood and our brothers and

sisters at Westerville Christian Church, Ohio followed by Brother Danny Spainhour and Pinedale Christian Church, NC.

Then Brother Ralph and kids that have consistently worked with us at Roundlake Christian camp have seen the potential of

the glimmers of light that they can bring to our village. This past summer we saw two new congregations take the leap of

faith for short term mission visit to the village, Brother Doug Forret and New Covenant Bible Church, Iowa and Pastor

Robin and Northside Christian Church, Ohio. The teams, compelled by the love of Christ and his saving work to the world,

took giant steps of faith to come and be part of this work. They molded bricks. They set up a solar pump and water mains.

They painted schools, they commissioned water wells. They did VBS and preached the love of God to hundreds of village

school kids. They preached to hundreds of adults, sang and danced with them in their language. In the sweltering heat and

cold, they shared the sweat/shivering with these humble saints. A beloved AIDS infected son to a dead father welcomed the

Team with the African drum beat one day. Three days later, his life was taken away so quickly. He succumbed to an

opportunistic disease and died. Pastor Robin and your ambassadors, the Team - buried him and send him off to heaven in a

humbling funeral. Some of you, consoled the widowed mum of this boy, herself an AIDS victim. The villagers were

touched. Is this not the full koinonia of the saints that Jesus demonstrated? Friends. We are grateful for these labors of

sincere Christian love. Among the Team, some gave money towards the drilling of another well. Some of you have

graciously adopted village kids for sponsorship. We are gratified that you, as a missional Church would elect to commit

yourselves to support one of our associate pastors and his family. Why have we given you historical snippets of our village?

That you may be encouraged to know that you are completely within the divine will of God. We are only facilitators and

feel humbled in the great honor of partnering with you. You are fulfilling the law: "You shall love your neighbor as

yourself" (Matt 22:39).

May the grace of God through our Lord Jesus Christ rule your hearts until he comes.
