March/April 2018 DMTA Today From the President Greetings! What a wonderful time of year! Just as soon as we think we can’t take any more of the cold, wet and windy weather, Spring pokes out its head in grass beginning to green, flowers and trees beginning to bud and we feel renewed. I hope you are experiencing the same feeling within your teaching and your studio. I think our students experience much the same blahs that we do in these cold months. Maybe bringing a new challenge, studying a piece in a different light or revving up practice habits with a renewed energy will go along with the brightness and the warmth. Here’s hoping for a smooth finish as you head toward the end of the school year! He is a virtuoso of stunning level. He performed Prokofiev’s VI Sonata with brilliance and almost superhuman qualities.” (Hadashot ha-Forum, Tel-Aviv, Israel) Helsinki, Finland)

“..amid Wodnicki’s virtuoso acumen there was that indescribable magic of emotion-so rarely heard on today’s concert stages.” (The Salt Lake City Tribune, U.S.A.)

“Wodnicki’s virtuosity is of a caliber that at times downright take one’s breath away.” (Helsingin Sanomat, Helsinki, Finland)

ADAM WODNICKI, PIANO March 24, 2018

Brookhaven School of the ArtsMusic Department Presents

Performance Hall, Bldg. C 6pm Free Admission

World Renowned Pianist, Three-time prizewinner of the annual Chopin Competition

Works by Haydn, Muczynski, Debussy, and Chopin.

Just performed in Italy and Uruguay in last summer, pianist Christina Long will present a recital entitled ‘Exotic Inspiration’ at Steinway Hall, Plano

(5813 Preston Re. #570, Plano, 75093) on March 24 (Saturday) at 7:30 pm.

Program will include pieces by Scarlatti, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Griffes, Schumann,

Liszt, Debussy and Sczymanowski.

From the Artist:

“Nowadays we hear news, see pictures, or take trips to explore the world. Composers

use music to share their inspiration from foreign land or people. Even up till half

century ago, traveling was rare and considered a privilege for rich and famous. I

would like to share examples of how musicians kept their “musical blogs”. These

could be memories from taking actual trips or just reading literature, seeing the

painting, or hearing the sound. The recital will provide opportunities for us to

travel aurally to be an exotic land. That is the power of the art! It will take us

to places that we have never been.”

The rela onship between the pianist and piano is a highly personal, subjec ve one. In ideal circumstances, it’s a love affair that deepens over me. With my new Fazioli, it truly was love at first sight, or should I say, touch. Over the last few months, my rela onship with this fabulous instrument has only deepened. It is definitely a two-way rela onship. The Fazioli is teaching definitely a two-way rela onship. The Fazioli is teaching me news ways of crea ng music at the piano. It doesexactly what you ask, nothing more, nothing less, which

requires a more precise kind of playing and thinking. It’s almost like star ng over, even with pieces I’ve played for most of my life. The sound is beau ful, clear, and warm. I feel like I have only begun to realize its full capabili es, and I look forward to a long, happy rela onshipwith this amazing instrument. I consider it to be one of thefinest instruments I have played anywhere, and I feel finest instruments I have played anywhere, and I feel extremely fortunate to be able to spend me with it regularly, both as a player and listener.
