St. Patrick’s of Tekamah:

“Go forth from the land of your kinfolk and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.” ~ GENESIS 12:1 ~

God calls all of us to leave behind our old ways and to follow Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materialism, selfishness and greed. Yet God promises to show us a new land and a better way to live. Remember what St. Teresa of Calcutta said, “God does not call us to be successful, God calls us to be faithful.”

Children’s good deed: “I did the dog chores; I practiced for my piano lesson; I made cookies with grandma.”

Tend thy sick ones, O Lord Jesus. Rest thy weary ones. Bless thy dying ones. Soothe thy suffering ones. Pity thy afflicted ones. Shield thy joyous ones. And all for thy love’s sake. (St. Augustine) We pray for our beloved deceased. May they rest in peace and may God comfort those who mourn.

From Fr. Kevin…

On this 2nd

Sunday of Lent the first reading from The

Book of Genesis speaks of the saga of Abram. It

begins with the Lord’s command and promises,

followed by Abrams’s unquestioning obedience. As

the narrative begins God invites Abram to an

extreme act of trust as he is told to leave his native

land and kinsfolk. The Lord asks a great deal of

Abram, but promises vastly more, promising that he

will become the father of a great nation, a people in

whom all of humanity will be blessed. In blessing

Abram, the Lord assures him that divine power will

supply what human weakness cannot accomplish.

Abram’s belief in God’s promise of blessing and

his obedience even in the face of unimaginable

testing present him as a model of faith. The scene

in the gospel from Matthew 17 depicts Jesus on a

mountaintop in his Transfiguration. The Father says

to the three disciples who are with Jesus, “This is my

beloved Son with whom I am well pleased, listen to

him.” In the Old Testament, to hear and obey

God’s Word was the identifying mark of a

genuine response to God. Like Abram we, too, are

asked to listen to God’s Word and to obey. Peace, Fr.

Kevin ♦Please note: Mass times next weekend are flipped for one

weekend for First Communion. Sunday Mass at Holy

Family is at 8:00 AM; First Communion Mass at St. Patrick

is at 10:00 AM on March 15th

. Mass times go back to the

winter schedule for March 22nd

and March 29th

.

FAITH FACTS Transfigured ( MATTHEW 17:2)

Although the Greek word here (metamorphosis) commonly described a change in form or appearance that a god might make to appear to humans, the gospel writers suggest a completely new meaning. The transfiguration is a glimpse of God’s glory breaking forth from Jesus’ human form. After revealing to the disciples that as Messiah he would have to suffer, Jesus’ changed appearance previews the change that he will undergo at his resurrection. The dazzling light, the divine voice of approval, the support of the whole Jewish tradition represented by Moses (the Jewish Law) and Elijah (the prophets) signal that his messianic suffering is the fulfillment of God’s plan for salvation.
