Technology/Innovations
Meeting today’s challenges with new ideas using
innovation and technology.
E-Construction – using iPads and more technology in the field.
Travel information map on our website – provides information on
road conditions, load restrictions, work zones, road cameras and
weather radar. About 4 million page views last year.
21
Technology/InnovationsTransportation Innovations Program (TRIP)
Program to identify and implement innovative ideas in transportation
projects, processes and products.
Some recent TRIP Ideas Being Advanced:
• Intelligent Work Zones (using ITS methods to alert drivers to changing
conditions and potential travel delays on the fly)
• Geosynthetic Reinforced Soil Integrated Bridge System (using fabric and
aggregate rather than the typical concrete abutment to construct a bridge
– to be built in Stark County)
• Micro-Milling before Microsurfacing (Hwy 49 at the SD border; completing
a micro milling before placement of Microsurfacing to allow for a smoother
final surface)
• An integrated base drainage system for concrete roadways (specially
designed geosynthetic material is placed under the joints on a concrete
roadway to wick any water that infiltrates the joint out from under the
pavement to the inslope)
22
• It is important to pay attention when working or traveling in a construction work zone -your safety and the safety of others depends on it.
