March 26 Budget Workshop Update

1
Greetings All, Today, March 26, 2013, the Board of Supervisors held their last scheduled budget work shop. The final adoption of the budget is scheduled to be Thursday evening April 4 at the Warren Green Building at 7:00 PM. This email is to update all of you on the proposed budget email that Assistant Chief Stevens sent last week. Reminder the budget is not formalized until the final vote on April 4- High Risk Retirement LEOS: The Special risk retirement benefit remains in the budget and appears to have strong board support. This still will eliminate our vacant Deputy Chief Position Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA): The Board did not reach a consensus on a cost of living increase. However they have agreed to re-review this item when the current budget expires in June. They will be looking at any carry overs (left over budget money) and will revisit colas or bonuses at that time. Insurance: The insurance cost this year has escalated tremendously. Last week there was a discussion in which the County would pay 80% of the increase and the employee 20 %. At this meeting the board identified funding in which the County would pay 100% of the insurance increase. VFRA There was no changes to the VFRA budget as proposed last week. I will leave it to President Marable to update all of you on any issues with that particular process. My family and I will be leaving for a short spring (winter break) and will return next Monday. As usual Assistant Chief Stevens will stay alert as to any other budget issues and will inform all of you accordingly. Thank You All for your hard work on this important process- Sincerely, Thomas M.
