“Behold the man!” (John 19:5) proclaimed the unwitting preacher Pontius Pilate in one of the shortest yet most profound sermons ever recorded. This will be our endeavor this Lententide during the Sunday morning Bible Study Time at 9:30 a.m. and at the Wednesday morning Bible Brunch each week at 10:00 a.m.

Behold the man, God in human flesh, Jesus. His incarceration will provide the basis for our meditation and proclamation on His Passion. Please join us in contemplating the inescapable fact — indeed the most important fact in the course of human history — that God became man. Discussion led by Craig Chaddock Classes will meet in the Conference Room.

Bible Study on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary. Each week there will be a new topic to explore and discuss while reading supporting verses in the Bible. John Strang will be facilitating the discussions.

THE OUTCOME OF LAST SUNDAY’S VOTERS MEETING On Sunday, March 17th the congregation was encouraged to attend a special voters meeting to determine if the congregation was willing to support taking a short term loan out to begin the first phase of the roofing project this summer. With much input by the roofing committee and our treasurer, many important points and facts were presented which cannot be ignored. The vote was in favor of taking the $75,000 short term loan. We also have to remember that the congregation voted last year to “borrow” $44,000 from our “Reserve Fund” which will need to be paid back. With all of our prayers, financial pledges and support of many fantastic events planned to help pay this debt off, we will soon be seeing the wonderful changes coming our way. If you would like a copy of the minutes taken at this meeting, you will find copies at the guest podium near the name tags.

JōB Why me, God?” is something we utter when things just aren’t going our way. It seems to be the question that a certain man from the land of Uz named Job was asking about 3,000 years ago as he suffered a series of personal tragedies. In these 40 days leading up to our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, we will see how God responds to this question of “Why me,” as we mediate on the Book of Job. Join us March 10-April 10 for our Sunday and Wednesday worship services as we examine the various responses to suffering by Job, his friends and ultimately God that are revealed in the book: The worship times are 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays and at 12:15 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

Also during Lent you may study the entire Book of Job with us by using a booklet of daily devotions that Pastor Tony has prepared. Copies of the devotion booklet are available in the church narthex/lobby area.

THE FISHING TRIPS AND DINNER: The Fishing Trips scheduled for March had to be cancelled due to bad weather. We regret that this is occurring, but weather, at this time apparently, is too unpredictable. Because this will affect our Dinner scheduled for April 13th, both events are cancelled for now. Money is being returned for the fishing reservations Fishing trips will be offered at a later date when the weather is more stable. Captain Tim still wishes to take our people fishing. When enough fish are caught, then we will schedule the dinner.

“It's better to bite your tongue than to eat your words.” —Frank Sonnenberg “You do not need to wallow in guilt. Wallow in the mercy of God.” —St. John Vianney “Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping him up.” —Jesse Jackson “There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” —Rachel Carson “We are all so sunk in sin, and so wedded to the world, that we would never turn to God and seek salvation, unless he first called us by his grace.”
