This Week’s Mass Schedule and Intentions (Confessions: 7:30 PM, Monday at St. Maurice & Noon, Saturday at Word of God)

When the new Mass schedule was announced last summer, we mentioned that it was an “interim” schedule. Recently, some folks have asked what that means, and what our plan is, with respect to establishing a permanent Mass schedule.

We called our schedule an “interim” one, not because it was guaranteed to change, but because we wanted to give ourselves some time to evaluate it and to decide whether it was

meeting the needs of the parishioners of grouping 215. We committed to you that there would be an opportunity for you to provide feedback on your experiences of the new Mass schedule once we had been using it for five or six months.

Our plan at this point is to provide a survey to you in April. The survey will be provided both in electronic form (through a web link) and on paper (in the back of each church building). The survey will address both our weekend and weekday schedules. Once we’ve had a chance to compile the results, our clergy team and advisory council will discuss the results of the survey. If there are any changes that have been requested that are possible to implement, we’ll discuss whether and how we might make those changes. If we conclude that we’d like to make changes to our weekend schedule, we’ll request permission from our Regional Vicar (Fr. Fred Cain) to make the changes.

My hope is that, by late spring, we’ll be able to announce the results of the survey, as well as the schedule with which we’ll move forward as our permanent Mass schedule. Please keep your eyes on the ‘4-1-1’ section of the bulletin in the upcoming weeks for more information!

Blessings, Fr. Larry

Mission Week Testimony: This program gives me a great deal of opportunities to strengthen my relationship with God and reflect on qualities of mine that can be improved upon to be a more virtuous and helpful member of any project or community I'm a part of. It was very satisfying using the gifts God has given me to help others. I can’t wait to go this year. – A.J. Markiewicz

PIEROGI/FISH FRY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Some of the volunteers who have had major roles in coordinating these activities are not returning this year because of a variety of reasons, including health issues. Therefore, in addition to our usual volunteer needs, we are in dire need of volunteers who would be willing to take over and manage different aspects of this most critical fundraiser. So, please volunteer (in any capacity)—our ability to continue to hold a fish fry depends on you!! Please contact Kelley Rodgers at 412-427-9639 with any questions.

Pierogis will be assembled Thursdays (March 28, April 4 & 11) and Tuesday, April 16. Pierogi preparation days will be on all Wednesdays during Lent (March 27, April 3 &10) and ending on Monday, April 15. On pierogi prep days (Wednesdays—make dough and filling) come to Keane Hall at 3:00 PM or, if you would like to help make the sauerkraut balls, you may come at 5:00 PM. On pierogi assembly days (Thursdays—to help “pinch” pierogis) you may arrive any time after 3:30 PM. No experience necessary! Light refreshments will be available.

FISH FRY: Every Friday during Lent (including Good Friday) from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in Keane Hall. Fried and baked fish, shrimp, coleslaw, mac & cheese, haluski, French fries, pizza, sandwiches, and pasta. Eat-in or take-out orders. Potato & cheese and sauerkraut pierogis are available for purchase by the dozen for take-out only. For all take-out orders please call Keane Hall at 412-723-1200 from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

BAKE SALE: Calling all bakers! Donations of baked goods would be greatly appreciated to sell during every fish fry. Please drop off donations in Keane Hall either Thursday evenings or Fridays after 9:00 AM.

MUSIC NOTES: Mark your Calendars for two special Lenten Events: The Good Shepherd Ringers will present Musical Meditations on the Stations of the Cross on Palm Sunday, April 14 at 7:00 PM at St. Maurice. Readings from the Passion Narrative are interwoven with beautiful arrangements of Lenten music in this prayerful service, presented by the

dedicated young musicians from Good Shepherd, under the direction of Kelly Thompson.

The St. Maurice Choir will present Tenebrae: A Service of Shadows on Good Friday, April 19 at 7:00 PM at St. Maurice. The choir will be joined by the Radiant String Quartet for this powerful service of scripture, prayer and song.

ERROR: Due to an error in the date on the weekly envelopes for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the correct date for the Diocesan collection is March 31. The second collection will be taken that weekend. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Lenten Reflection on Fasting & Almsgiving Dcn. Keith will present a Lenten reflection on Fasting & Almsgiving during Holy Hour at Madonna del Castello Parish Fri., March 29. Fasting and almsgiving entail so much more

than giving-up Starbucks and handing a stranger a dollar on the Parkway exit ramp during Lent. He will share some thoughts on how these two disciplines draw us outside of ourselves and closer to God and our neighbors. 6pm-Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed by silent prayer. 6:15pm-Reflection (approximately 20 minutes) followed by silent prayer. 6:50pm-Benediction.

SOLES-4-SOULS: The four parishes of our grouping (Good Shepherd, Madonna del Castello, St. Maurice and Word of God) will participate in the Soles 4 Souls program, to benefit the extremely poor in the Honduras. We will be collecting gently worn shoes, which will be shipped to the Honduras, where recipients will use the shoes to set up micro-enterprises where they learn to clean, repair and sell the shoes. These micro-enterprises are run by women, and they help local families and economies. Each pair of shoes results in a profit of $7-8 which can feed a family there for about 4 days. Last year we collected over 2,000 pairs of shoes. Our drive begins March 30 and ends April 7. Containers to collect the shoes will be in the back of each church. PLEASE bundle each pair with a rubber band or tie together. NO shoe boxes, please. If you complete and enclose the form below with your donated shoes, you will receive a receipt which can be used for a tax deduction. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
