The month of February has been busy with announcing change to the congrega-tion. On Sunday, February 10, Bruce Oberlies Chair of the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) announced to the congregation that after six years as Senior Pastor at Cary United Methodist Church, Pastor Mike has been appointed to Cross-roads of Faith in Bolingbrook, one of our sister churches in the Northern Illinois Conference. He will remain our Pastor through June. Two weeks later on February 24th, Bruce announced that Rev. Gary Waters has been appointed by Bishop Rev. Dr. Sally Dyck and the Northern Illinois Con-ference Cabinet as the new Pastor for Cary United Methodist Church effective July 1st 2019 for the following missional reasons:
• Great Preacher • Good Administrator • Healer and Reconciler / Conflict
Management / Excellent Pastoral Care
• Community and Mission Minded • Personable
We will keep you up to date on the plans for the celebration of Pastor Mike’s service with CUMC. We ask for you to pray for Pastor Mike and Linda as they prepare for their next ministry. The SPRC appreciates your continued support and prayers as we prepare for the next pastor. Prayerfully, The SPRC
United Methodist Church
Process of Pastor Selection
Many of you may be wondering about the process of procuring a new pastor in the Methodist Church, and what is the Staff Parish Relations Committee’s (SPRC) role in this process? According to an online article by Ask the UMC, a ministry of United Methodist Communications, “While bishops make appointments, they incorporate a consul-tative process outlined in the Book of Discipline that includes district superin-tendents, clergy and the pastor/staff par-ish relations committees. The needs and desires of clergy are considered but the mission of the church comes first.” Our Northern Illinois Conference Bishop, Rev. Dr. Sally Dyck describes her “Clear Open Appointments” process at https://www.umcnic.org/news/clear-open-appointments. The SPRC began the transition process by meeting with Rev. Darneather Murph-Heath, our District Superintendent, and compiling a list of qualities that we be-lieve to be important for our new pastor to possess. Rev. Darneather took this in-formation to the Bishop and the Cabinet who review the list and work together in prayer to find someone who will be a good fit for CUMC. When that person is discerned by the Bishop, the Cabinet, and the District Superintendent they will meet with the SPRC. The SPRC does not actu-ally choose our new pastor, but we meet with them before the appointment is con-firmed by the Bishop and appointed to the church.

From the Desk of Pastor George. . .
My Dear Friends and Members of our Church, Greetings in the name of our Savior Jesus Christ!
“But he (Abraham), did not doubt or wa-ver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith. Giving glory to God (Romans 4:20 AMP).
Recently, I preached a sermon on the life of Abraham. In this letter, I want to latch on to the subject of relying upon the promises of God in all circumstances, es-pecially when there is uncertainty about the future. God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations – that his heirs would outnumber the stars in the sky. He could have doubted his listening skill or his own understanding, but the Apostle Paul remembers him and says, “He grew strong in faith by giving praise and thanksgiving to God” instead of com-plaining or just doubting himself. His prayer must have contained a heart full of gratitude and anticipation that one day the promise God made will be fulfilled.
Soon we will enter into the season of Lent leading us to the celebration of the day of resurrection. Your instincts may tell you it is just another season of the church. How-ever, it is a time to remember the great promise of God fulfilled in the death and resurrection of our Lord. What God start-ed in the life of Abraham was fulfilled in Jesus Christ our Lord. Now is the time to let that promise also be fulfilled in our personal lives each day!
In the life of our church, this is the time of transition of Pastoral leadership. Please pray so that we will not ‘doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God.’ Through the many ministries of our church, let us celebrate and proclaim the ever refreshing Gospel of salvation and new life in Christ. With your faithfulness, a great future lies ahead for Cary United Methodist Church!!
If you have a Pastoral Care need, please call the church office and Pastor Mike and I will be happy to talk to you. You may write me at: [email protected].
God bless you.
Your servant in Christ,
Dr. George E. David, Pastor

“Beautiful music is the art of the prophets
that can calm the agitations of the soul;
It is one of the most magnificent and de-
lightful presents God has given us.” https://www.christianquotes
Singing hymns during Lent is an im-
portant way to provide opportunities for
all of us to pray together and lift our
voices to God. As we make our voices
heard with sung prayer, we also listen for
God’s voice in the music that surrounds
us. What does the text of the sung prayer
mean to you? What is the message God
is sending you? We read the words,
match each phrase with melody and
rhythm for accuracy of the written score.
It is also necessary to ’feel’ each phrase
and never sing/pray without undivided
attention to God’s Word in the beauty of
the music. We sing with gratitude for in-
dividual insights received during our Len-
ten journey, as well as for the opportunity
to worship. Instrumental Music is God’s
‘Songs Without Words’ which should
inspire meditation, with a deep, spiritual
connection to God as you listen and al-
low God’s message to come to you. May
we carry God’s message into the world
around us through music, ever widening
that community of love of faith.
As we journey through Lent, the Chan-
cel Choir will pray with you singing
praise to God. Join us on Ash Wednes-
day, March 6th, 7:30 pm. On Ash
Wednesday, we are reminded of our be-
ginning with a beautiful song entitled
“Dust and Ashes” by Wren and Haas.
Listen, pray, and bring your hearts to God
as you sing the special hymns throughout
Lent. The Chancel Choir rehearsals are
always listed in the bulletin on Thurs-
day’s at 7:30 pm in the sanctuary. There
are opportunities for you to participate in
the Gift Of Music, if you feel called to
do so. Just let me know.
Kathleen Cizewski,
Cary UMC Minister of Music

Ice Cream Fundae was so much fun!!!! We had amazing ice
cream, especially the Superman ice cream from Peacetime Ice
Cream. The games were fun too. We loved the Snowman Wrap
game! The best part of the evening was sharing Christian fellow-
ship with old and new friends.
