From Your Pastor: Jim Ewing
Evangelism! Most of us know that it’s something Jesus commanded us to do ... but it’s a pretty scary thing to do. In my final message in the series: 5 Scary Things About Church ... I addressed the issue of evangelism and my goal was to help us understand that it isn’t an event, it’s a process. It’s a day-by day effort to present a picture of what Jesus has done in our lives. As we do that consistently, we will find that we earn the right to share a word about the Gospel. During my message I share a picture that I think helps us understand the process of evangelism:
Here’s as story that helps make this point. In 218 B.C. the Carthaginian king, Hannibal, stood atop the lofty Col de la Traversette pass in the Alps and looked down upon the mighty Roman Empire, the kingdom he had come to destroy.
Inflamed with hatred, he drove his tattered army down the mountainside. Before his quest for glory could be realized, however, he had to overcome the last obstacle blocking his path—an enormous rock, wedged into the valley floor that prevented his passage. It was impossible to move his chariots and wagons through the pass unless the rock was dislodged and moved out of the way. Attempts to crack the rock with picks and hammers failed. Sacrifices and incantations likewise produced no results. Desperate and impatient, Hannibal cried out, “Burn it!” To his half-dead troops, this irrational command seemed mad. Surely Hannibal wasn’t serious. Nevertheless, within a few hours felled trees were clustered around the rock to fuel the fire that Hannibal had commanded. When the wood was laid, the soldiers lit the fire and watched in fascination as the flames formed an inferno around the rock. Finally, unable to withstand the heat, the rock yielded with a deafening “CRACK!” heard down the valley. The impenetrable rock had split in two. Hannibal and his army descended upon Rome, and the course of world history was changed forever.
Many people believe it’s possible to change bad people into good people with education, an improved environment, increased economic assistance, or special programs. As helpful as those things may be, they are merely picks and hammers scratching an enormous rock. Only God is able to change the human heart. In one sense, when we spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ (or even when we serve others in the name of Christ), we lay around the hearts of people, firewood to be lit by the power of the Holy Spirit for the purpose of changing people from the inside out. It's a process. What this means is that how we do life day-to-day is an essential part of the process. Over the coming months we’ll be participating in several community outreach projects ... and offering a training course, called 3 Circles, to help prepare you to share the Gospel message when the time is right. As I've said before, our confused world is offering us a tremendous opportunity to share the distinctiveness of the Gospel. We need to be ready! Together in Him, Bro Jim

March is almost upon us! We have been hard at work in AWANA and JUMP. We’re still working on our Gospel According to Dr. Seuss in JUMP. This has been a lot of fun and great learning. We still have several weeks to go before we finish with this. Danny is working with the children in Kids Town Jubilee Chorus on a song they will sing on Palm Sunday, April 14th. Come celebrate with us as we start the week to Easter. We will also be doing several activities that will lead up to Easter. More information coming soon. In AWANA, I will be passing out the cars for the Grand Prix, May 5th. The cars will be due back Sunday, April 14th. The children and parents do such a great job with this. Can’t wait to see them. Be watching for information on what we need for Power Up VBS. We’ll be sending that list out soon. Also Rita is talking to people and asking for volunteers to help. If she hasn’t talked to you and you want to help, let her know. VBS is June 24th-28th. Lots of things going on. Anytime you would like to help, just let me know. Children in Christ, Janet Dietsch

The first of a two-part reading: Author unknown Church is hard. Church is hard for the person walking through the doors, afraid of judgment. Church is hard for the pastor’s family, under the microscope of an entire body. Church is hard for the prodigal soul returning home, broken and battered by the world. Church is hard for the girl who looks like she has it all together, but doesn’t. Church is hard for the couple who fought the entire ride to service. Church is hard for the single mom, surrounded by couples holding hands, and seemingly perfect families. Church is hard for the widow and widower with no invitation to lunch after service. Church is hard for the deacon with an estranged child. Church is hard for the person singing worship songs, overwhelmed by the weight of the lyrics. Church is hard for the man insecure in his role as a leader. Church is hard for the wife who longs to be led by a righteous man. Church is hard for the nursery volunteer who desperately longs for a baby to love. Church is hard for the single woman and single man, praying God brings them a mate. Church is hard for the teenage girl, wearing a scarlet letter, ashamed of her mistakes. Church is hard for the sinners. Church is hard for me. It’s hard because on the outside it all looks shiny and perfect. Sunday best in behavior and dress. However, underneath those layers, you find a body of imperfect people, carnal souls, and selfish motives. Stay tuned for Part 2: The Beauty of the Church. Blessing to you all, Danny Youth Ministry: Lance & Trena Gregory
Crossing Camp dates: 6.12.19 – 6.16.19. Church Camp 1st deposit of $75.00 is due February 24th. If you see our ad on FBC Facebook or Instagram, feel free to share so we can spread the word! In Christ,

Well it’s winter so most of the report will be about inside work. The anteroom is back together with new paint and trim. We’re not through with the project just yet as a new door and window will soon be installed. This will give the building better security and a fresher look inside and out.
Speaking of windows, the sanctuary windows are in very poor condition and will need an upgrade in the near future. Making a modern and energy efficient window match our décor will be a challenge but I think possible. Thanks to Robert Futrell’s work on the old window glazing, we have time to consider our options.
Arron Smith has been installing new Wi-Fi equipment that will give us better reception throughout the church complex. We have run new coaxial cable to the gym and offices and we are currently running new cable in the sanctuary for the sound booth equipment. The next step will be to strengthen the signal in the Kids Town and Sunday school rooms.
Even more signage has been installed in our hallways. I hope this makes it easier for visitors and members to navigate their way to all the ministries in our buildings.
In our Activity Center, the drywall in the east hallway of the “Upper Room” has been completed with paint on the way. More LED fixtures have also been installed. We are very close to finishing this project which has already made a difference in our youth ministry. Thanks again to all who made and are making this possible.
