Trade Reports According to Mexican official import stats, Canadian agri-food exports to Mexico during 2014 reached US$1.89 billion, which were quite similar (only 1.2% lower) than the exports reported in 2013. A decline in Canadian exports of bulk commodities to Mexico (only in terms of value because in terms of volume an increase was reported) during 2014, was counteracted by relevant increases in Canadian exports of intermediate products and consumer-ready food products to Mexico. It is important to note that the Canadian dollar maintained a high value vs. the Mexican peso during 2014, which was not precisely favourable for the expansion of exports. Despite the fact that in terms of value ($), Canadian exports of bulk commodities to Mexico during 2014 (US$1.1 billion), were 12% lower as compared to the exports from 2013; in terms of volume (metric tonnes), Canadian exports reported a 7% increase. This appears to indicate that Canadian grains were able to be purchased at lower prices in Mexico during 2014. Value figures for 2014 report a 15% decline in Canadian canola exports to Mexico and a 5% decline in Canadian wheat exports; nevertheless in terms of volume, Canadian exports of canola and wheat to Mexico reported increases of 10% and 6% respectively, as compared to 2013.
