Middlers’ Sunday School (Don & Shelley Marangoni):

First off, we want you to know your kids are awesome and are loved! We en-

joy teaching, learning, sharing, and laughing together.

Beginning on January 4th we started a new journey together with the

6th, 7th, and 8th graders, studying the Life Together series, “To Go

Where God Wants You to Be.” Part of this journey was to better

define who “we” as Middlers are and want to be, and to establish

our own unique area and vision/mission. Our first task was to look for a passage in the bible that described

us, and would be our mission verse for the year. 1Timothy 4:12 was selected; “Don’t let anyone think less

of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your

love, in your faith, and your purity.”

Now that our mission verse was selected, we decided to move classrooms in the basement, and to design

our room around us and our mission. The room is taking shape, and will be created over the next 2

months… we will add a chalkboard wall, a TV for video lessons, and a picture wall of “selfies” showing

each of the Middlers. An important aspect requested by the kids was to have a Mission wall, where addi-

tional items, pictures, and writings describing our journey can be captured. Stop down and see the transfor-

mation! In addition, we got together to watch the Super Bowl and had a blast!

In Sunday School, we are studying and discussing our way through the first book of the Life Together se-

ries. Highlights of our discussions include:

· January 4: Matthew 22:34-40; The greatest commandment

· January 11: Hebrews 10:23-25; Encouraging one another

· January 18: Moved Classrooms

· January 25: John 15:1-8; Growing to be like Jesus

· February 1: John 15:1-8 continued & Super Bowl Party

· February 15: Matthew 25:14-30; Finding and using your spiritual gifts

· February 22: Matthew 25:14-30; Spiritual gift assessment

Upcoming: Watch for news about “March Middler Madness!” Starting in March (Date TBD), we will

meet to play basketball in the gym prior to Youth Group 3:45-5pm. This is open to the Middler group and

is co-ed. We’ll run basketball drills, and play some pickup games. You don’t need to be a pro, or even

have played basketball before. All are welcome. Then stay for Youth group at 5pm.

Middlers youth group (Erin Regan):

We’ve been studying the gospel of Matthew through questions that Jesus asked His disciples and the peo-

ple of His day, then asking ourselves the same questions. We start each Middler night off by celebrating a

silly daily holiday (such as National Gumdrop Day or National Date-Nut-Bread Day), go into small groups,

engage with the large group, eat a snack, then join the Highers for games, worship, and prayer! God is do-

ing incredible things with our Middlers and we are so grateful!

Highers Sunday school (Scott and Madeline Wilson):

Doubt. Guilt. Worry. Anger…

These are things we all struggle with, but are almost always afraid to address. In Higher Sunday school,

the youth have the opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the things that make us human. Using

the Revolution Bible Study for Teenagers curriculum, and through vulnerable discussion, the Highers are

able to confront the ways of the world head on with the assurance and confidence of faith.

We also do fun things like make the “Christian version” of Super Bowl commercials! If you haven’t seen it

yet, ask for a link from Scott, Madeline, or Erin!

Highers youth group (Erin Regan):

After our combined time with the Middlers, we have been delving deep into the Old Testament. Beginning

with a clip from The Bible series, then moving into small group discussion, we challenge each other with

thought-and-soul-provoking insights and questions about our Christian faith and Who our God really is. We

just finished Abraham’s story and are about to embark on Moses’ journey of freeing the Israelites. The

Highers are pumped for the 30 Hour Famine on Feb.27-28th; therefore, we will give you updates in the April

newsletter! Our Lord is constantly proving His faithfulness and love to/for us!

*The youth ministry team is keenly aware that we would not be able to do anything without the support of

our amazing volunteers. THANK YOU so much for making youth ministry possible! That being said, we

do need more adult volunteers for Sunday nights, special events, and church buddies! Please contact Erin if

you’re interested. Also, all volunteers need to update their background checks – if you haven’t gotten a

packet from the safe sanctuary team, please let Erin know.*

Youth Missions:

With the help of many Giving Tree Angels, Practically Broadway attendants, Fat Tuesday donors, and sever-

al other generous contributors, our 2015 youth mission team has been completely financially supported! The

Practically Broadway event profited $1,184 and the Fat Tuesday supper & variety show profited $860.

So, on behalf of all of us:

Thank You!

Music News

Wow! I can’t believe March is here! 2015 already is proving to be an exciting year! Lent is upon us. This is journey through Lent to Holy Week and culminating on Easter Sunday is a time to reflect, confess, seek out and draw closer to our Lord, Jesus Christ. If you are feeling moved during this season to become involved musically at Central, please see me or Erin and we would happily get you plugged into one of the groups.

Reminder! Handchimers will ring Sunday March 1st in both services

Kid’s Choir will sing Sunday March 29th in both services to celebrate Palm Sunday.

My prayer for us all this month is to find time to rest in God’s peace and reflect

on our lives to find new ways to become more Christ-like and serve God. Blessings, Prayers, and Love,

Dani “Change your life, not just your clothes. Come back to God, your God. And here’s why, God is kind and merciful.

He takes a deep breath, he puts up with a lot. This most patient God, is always ready to cancel catastrophe.”

Joel 2:13-14 MSG

Diaper Bank Ministry

It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. Yes, Central, during Lent we are holding a DIAPER

DRIVE! We challenge YOU in the next 6 weeks to donate diapers to reach our goal of 10,000

diapers to start our own diaper bank this summer. We need diapers of all sizes, particularly

size 4-6. To date we have collected 1,154! Be a part of this exciting opportunity that God has

given us. Place your donation in the crib in the lobby or you can send a monetary contribution

to Central Presbyterian Church, Attn: Dani Kardisco and we’ll purchase the diapers in the siz-

es most needed.

THEN……. Starting on March 8th thru April 1st we will have a contest on how to best advertise our new

“DIAPER BANK” to the community. The winning suggestion will be announced on Easter

Sunday, April 5th. Send your suggestions to Dani at Central Presbyterian Church or you can

use the contest entry form that will be in the March 8-March 29 church bulletins.

DEDICATORY ORGAN RECITAL We are very happy to let you know that the organ renovations are now completed. It has been very gratifying to watch and be part of this major project as it has evolved over the past months. The latest work done by Walker Technical was in memory of John Wingert, who passed away September, 2013. This was given by his wife, Helen Wingert, Selma Thomson, and many others who contributed to the church in his memory. This year is the 75th anniversary of the original installation of the Casavant Pipe Organ in 1940 following the major church fire a few years beforehand. We have been planning a dedicatory organ recital for Sunday afternoon, September 27, 2015 at 3:00 P.M.in our sanctuary. John Walker, National AGO President will be the recitalist. Dr. Walker's distinguished career includes having held positions as Minister of Music at Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Shadyside Presbyterian in Pittsburgh and The Riverside Church in New York CIty. He is a member of the organ faculty at Peabody Conservatory of Music. There are many other credits to Dr. Walker but for now it might be of interest to note some of his local connections. His father, Rev. John A. Walker, was pastor of Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church in Spring Run, PA from 1946 until 1956. He attended grade and middle school in the Fannet-Metal School District. As a freshman in high school he studied at James Buchanan High School in Mercers-burg PA. Mrs. U. L. Gordy (Jessie Gordy) was his home room teacher, his Latin teacher, and his Eng-lish teacher. He regards her as one of the most influential teachers in his life. Mrs. Gordy was then the widow of U. L. Gordy, former Superintendent of Schools in Chambersburg. His first organ lessons were in the autumn of 1955 at Wilson College where he studied with Dr. Harry Gay when he was a freshman in high school. He remembers Alex Shearer and Sam Worley. Alex' parents were leading members of his father's congregation at Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church. We are eagerly looking forward to this event as is our recitalist, Dr. Walker. Please mark your calendars now and save the date of September 27 at 3:00 PM for a recital you will want to be sure to hear. To God be the glory!!! For more information on Dr. Walker you may contact Helen Wingert, Organist, 717-375-4397
