Will You Be The Next Winner of the 50/50 raffle?

What You Missed

We had some new faces at our February meeting,Thank you everyone who took time out of their busy schedule to attend our February meeting.

Barbara Kanegsberg ( The Cleaning Lady ) spoke on “Why Dirt Sticks”

Barbara has a wonderful way of bringing humor in to her talks and making mundane things, like cleaning, actually interesting.

Barbara gave us the skinny on what kinds of dirt sticks to what kind of substates and how to clean them off. You can’t plate or coat it when it’s dirty. She also told us how to avoid getting the part dirty in the first place. Barbara went through the whole spectrum of how clean is clean, to what degree of clean do you need your substrate so you can put your finish on it.

Barbara has offered to do a series on specific cleaning. Let us know if you are interested in attending and what type of surface you need to clean.

Our 50/50 winner this month wasArchie Cholakian from CJI Process Systems

Kanegsbergs On Cleaning: Some Like it HotterArticle From: Products Finishing, Ed Kanegsberg from BFK Solutions LLC , Barbara Kanegsbergfrom BFK Solutions LLC Posted on: 3/1/2015Manufacturing deadlines loom. You get impatient with the product cleaning process. Can’t you make it run faster?

Is it getting hot in here?

Most critical and industrial cleaning processes run at elevated temperatures, and for good reason. A soil’s reactivity to the cleaning agent can be enhanced with heat. Chemists learn that—as a rule of thumb—the rate of reaction doubles with every 10°C increase.

Particularly with spray systems, aqueous cleaning agents may need to be brought up to a certain temperature just for the additive package to behave properly. For some near-neutral-pH aqueous cleaning agents, a higher temperature may be needed to avoid bacterial growth. And heat is necessary to liquefy soils like wax and metalworking fluid.

Employee Training: An Integral Part of Your Business StrategyKey Points

• Skills-based knowledge prepares employees to tackle their roles and responsibilities.

• Managers and supervisors are good resources when it comes to isolating areas that need improvement.

• Employee surveys provide information that may not surface during face-to-face interviews.

Employee training programs are becoming part of the long-term strategic objectives of any successful organization. Through a well-developed training program, employees acquire the requisite capabilities and skill sets needed to perform their job functions successfully. Ideally, the thoughtful development and implementation of an employee training program will improve the organizational competitiveness, long-term performance and overall productivity of your business. Under Lock and KeyKey Points

• Manufacturing accounts for nearly one-fourth of all targeted cyber attacks.

• Industrial control systems are easy to hack, resulting in lost production.

• An effective security system must consider people, processes and technology.

With the adoption of machine-to-machine systems, mobile apps, Intranets and cloud-based services, manufacturers are finding it difficult to achieve and maintain cyber security. Recent studies show:

• Manufacturing was the most targeted sector, accounting for 24 percent of all targeted attacks (Symantec 2012).

• Manufacturing networks are more likely to be targeted for espionage than financial gain (Verizon 2013).

Verizon also found that operations with fewer than 1,000 employees are targeted more often than large corporations.
