    Hello Parents,

One of the many purposes of the Parent Liaison Position is help educate parents by simplifying and

increasing meaningful communication from the school district. I am working on developing as many

avenues to deliver this information as possible, and have provided a couple of new ways to receive this

information! Please visit our Facebook Pagehttps://www.facebook.com/OasdSpecialEducationNetwork?ref=hlor

the OASD Special Education webpagehttp://oasdsen.weebly.com/. Again, I realize your time is valuable; I

will keep it short and sweet with a brief, consolidated newsletter. If there is information you are

looking for and would like me to include in future newsletters, please feel free to contact me and share

    your ideas. Thanks!

    We need your help!

A group of parents were randomly selected to receive an e-mail. This e-mail was sent onMarch 5, 2014 from the Oconomowoc Area School District containing a very important Parent

Survey from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction! Your childs education is

important and we want to know what you think. This is a chance to confidentially inform your

district of the services that are helping families. It is essential we have as many parents as

possible to participateas it will provide us with prudent information to help us better assist our

    families.

One of the questions on the survey we have struggled on in the past is;What options are available for parents if you disagree with the decision of the school?

This information is distributed several ways by the school district each year:- In the Parental Rights Brochure provided at the beginning of each year- On the OASD Special Education Network Facebook page

Is your child transitioning to the High School?

Preparations for planning the transition from intermediate to the high school have started to take

place. If you have questions or concerns about your childs scheduling please speak to your childs

Learning Strategist (Special Education teacher) about recommendations or to answer any questions or

concerns you may have. Certain students require hand scheduling, if you feel your son/daughter fits

this category, you may request to meet with the representatives from both schools. Please feel free to

contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns.

    Best Buddies Program

Best Buddies pairs students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in one-to-one

friendships with volunteer peer students. If you are interested in partnering your child with a Best

Buddies volunteer, please contact Mary Lou Wille at the High School.

Summer School Sign-Up Starts, Monday, March 10, 2014

We will try hard to accommodate any elementary student interested in attending any opportunity

offered this year through the addition of some extra staffing that will allow us to move beyond the

pilot classes this year. The district will review the list of students signed up for summer school and will

do their best to accommodate those that require assistance, in the event there is an issue you will be

contacted by the school. Parent and student volunteers are also very welcome and still needed to

accomplish the greatest success for all!

    GRATITUDE PROGRAM RECIPIENTS!

As the district embraces the Inclusive model, this has meant many significant changes for our teachers

and support staff throughout the district. Individuals at all levels have worked diligently to adapt these

practices and as a result have changed the dynamic of the entire student body. Weve witnessed

children with special needs develop social skills in addition to enhancing their educational

achievements. And it does not stop there; the general population of students has become educated,

compassionate and accepting of students with special needs and has provided an opportunity to

    develop friendships!

I am excited to share, our most recent recipients of our Gratitude program! Once again we have

individuals who have been acknowledged for going above and beyond to positively impact a students

    learning experience!
