Malachi 3:7-12

Though the world is full of disorder, confusion, and uncertainty, believers in Christ have the wonderful assurance that God is in absolute control of every situation. When He created the heavens and the earth, He had a purpose and a plan, which He carried out with precision and order. Nothing was haphazard, late, or uncertain. The Lord also has a plan for each one of us, and every aspect of our lives is not only under His scrutiny, but also under His care.

One of those areas is our finances. If we’ll follow God’s plan, He promises to manage our money. Now, that’s quite a blessing. After all, who do you think would be better at knowing how to handle money—you or our omniscient, all-powerful God? “Take,” Paul says, “the shield of faith, wherewith ye may be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one.” Faith, then, is what intercepts the flaming darts of lust. By the fear of future judgment and belief in the heavenly kingdom, it destroys them. “And take the breastplate,” he says, “of charity.” Certainly, this is what goes around the vital parts of the chest. Love protects what is vulnerable to the deadly wounds of prideful thoughts and keeps off fatal blows. The breastplate doesn’t allow the devil’s darts to penetrate to our hearts. For it “endureth all things, suffereth all things, beareth all things.” “And for a helmet take the hope of salvation.” The helmet protects the head. Since Christ is our head, we should protect it in every temptation and persecution, the hope of good things to come. Visitation Care Teamby Marilyn HornettI had a rewarding experience this month. I had the opportunity to travel with Linda Aumend and Pam Dunson to Ruffing Family Care Center in Bloomville and also to Elmwood Assisted Living at The Shawhan in Tiffin. In Bloomville we visited with Neil Shellhammer, Doris Watts, Dorman Biller and Lester Hamilton. Shelley (that’s all I have ever known him by) really got us to reminiscing about Attica in earlier years. There was so much I could relate to. (I guess I’m telling my age) Doris, Dorm and Lester were eating lunch so our visit was brief. In Tiffin we talked with Dolores Porter. She loves the game of aggravation so we indulged her. Well, I guess we indulged ourselves too as we became a little competitive. While we were there we spoke with Wayland Walker and had a good visit with Wanda Tanner. Linda Aumend is the team leader of the Visitation Care Team. There are about 12 – 14 members on this team. Some of the things we do are provide meals for new mom’s, those who may be ill or just had surgery or other circumstances. We also visit shut-ins and hospitals along with the nursing homes. And we can’t forget Pastor Michael and his accordion. Residents really seem to enjoy his visits. We help where we can. It is an honor to be a part of this group.

So, considering the blessings of this promise and the unfailing faithfulness of the Promise Giver, what is keeping you from obeying this command? The most likely reason is unbelief—fear to test Him on this even though He invites you to do so. But you may be asking yourself, What if He doesn’t come through? What if I give it away and don’t have enough?

The Lord is after your trust, and what better area to test and build it than your finances? Believing Him for our salvation seems easy, yet we often doubt He’ll keep His promise when it comes to money. Take a step of obedience today, and discover how faithful your God really is.

Articles for the newsletter should be submitted by the third Sunday of the month. Please email them to: [email protected]

THANK YOU

I think everyone will agree with me. Rebecca did a fantastic job of pulling off the surprise birthday party. It was a wonderful evening from beginning to end. Thank you Rebecca and “Happy Birthday” Pastor Michael. ~Marilyn

Pastor Michael was truly surprised!

Thank you, everyone, for attending Michael’s surprise party for his 60th birthday. It was so great to pull off a surprise for him - a first for Michael, and without your help in keeping it under wraps, it wouldn’t have gone the way it did. I also want to thank everyone who helped decorate, prepare cupcakes and bring food. Thank you Thank you!!Rebecca

Michael would also like to thank everyone for coming, and all the gifts. After receiving gifts of cinnamon and brown sugar, I think he got the hint that he needs to make more cinnamon bread!

Wanted! Quiet Summer Rental home - June to mid September for Melodie Austin. She has an

adorable, small, non-shedding dog. Mel would be the perfect tenant for someone selling their

home and needs a temporary occupant. Other scenarios will work, too.

Please let Rebecca know if you have something so she can pass the info on to Melodie.

April’s Jam n’ Bread - Jazz!Jazz musicians at the Seneca East High School will attend a free jazz clinic led by the band Padula Oblongata on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Titled “Getting Started Playing Jazz,” the clinic will provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge about the musical characteristics of jazz, the building blocks of jazz improvisation, and how to practice jazz. Students interested in participating during the clinic should bring their instruments.

Ted Buehrer and Ross Feller, both members of Padula Oblongata and on the Music Department faculty at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, will run the clinic. Padula Oblongata is a jazz combo consisting of trumpet, saxophone, Hammond B-3 organ, drums, and percussion. Formed in 2007 by the organist, Michael Padula, they have played at festivals and other venues around central Ohio. The band will provide musical demonstration of concepts and techniques discussed during the clinic. Following the clinic, Padula Oblongata will give a free performance of their own at 6 p.m.

Our usual Jam n’ Bread fair (Italian) will be served at 4:30 p.m. Donations for the food accepted as well as boxed and canned food for the Attica Food Pantry will be taken at the door.

Conviction of Sin

Wesley was convinced that living truthfully is a mark of God’s grace in our lives. God is actively at work, moving in and through the messiness of things, illuminating our lives, and prompting our desire to see what is really going on. Because we are created in God’s image and our destiny is to be restored to the fullness of that image, we need to discern our responsibility in refusing and failing to live according to our own wisdom and power. According to Wesley, God’s prevenient (preventing) grace assists us to be honest with God, ourselves, and others. This requires humility, and a desire to change our minds and the direction of our lives and characters. Wesley believed that the Holy Spirit empowers this turning in a manner that fully respects and enables the workings of our human capacities.

Grace

The term grace is a basic, yet misunderstood, concept. Some consider grace as a nice gift-wrapped unearned present from God. This mistaken idea of grace as a substance, a cure-all, a prescription for our ills, has a long history.Grace is actually a relational concept: God’s active presence and transformative power in our lives. The name Emmanuel speaks to this reality - God with us. We perceive the divine presence by the results of the divine energy working within us, enlightening, convicting, forgiving, liberating, assuring, chastising, empowering, strengthening, comforting - assisting us to become what God intended humankind to be, faithful creatures whose love for God and their neighbors is manifest through works of piety and mercy.Grace is a Trinitarian concept, grounded in the love and mercy of God the Father; especially manifest in the life, death, and resurrection of God the Son; and experienced through the work of God the Holy Spirit in our lives.

The gift of Nature...Ever since I was a little girl I have loved being in the woods. I can spend hours there, quietly watching and listening to the sights and sounds of my surroundings. God created the natural world as a gift to us to enjoy, admire it mysteries and preserve. Spending time at a park, going for a hike, bird watching, tracking...it’s all so good for the soul. Thank you, God, for the beautiful gift of nature.Rebecca
