Pastor’s Column

This week we celebrate the great mystery of our faith, the death and

Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Sacred Tridium celebrates the mysteries of

our redemption. On Holy Thursday, we celebrate the institution of the

Eucharist. This day Jesus gives a great gift of mercy to us, himself in the

Eucharist. What God gives himself to his people, so that they can have grace to

assist them in their daily life? They can pray to him in the tabernacle and

receive Jesus for the nourishment of the journey. On that same day Jesus

institutes the sacrament of Holy Orders by giving the command to do this in

memory of me and by washing their feet. The priesthood of the New Covenant

is instituted; it is one of service and offering the Eucharist for the people of God.

The Holy Thursday collection is used to assist those in need in the parish.

Good Friday is named good because it is the day we are ransomed by the death

of Jesus. His death was brutal and horrific but it freed us from the bonds of sin.

That the Son of God, Jesus Christ the second person of the Holy Trinity, who has

become a human being and dies on the cross in order to redeem the human

race. This day is one of prayer and fasting for us, to show our appreciation for

our redemption.

Holy Saturday, a day of waiting and prayer, whose great vigil announces the

feast of the Resurrection. The Resurrection being the cornerstone of our faith,

that Jesus rose from the dead giving us the life eternal.

So, during this week we call holy let us come together in praise and worship

God and ask him for His mercy. As we celebrate this great feast of the

Resurrection and end our Lenten practices let us remember the parish in your

charity in the Easter Collection.

God Bless, Fr. Rich
