TAYLOR'S T ROOM: To coordinate the various departments and -- orgaxizations of the College of Engineering, the students of the College established i n 1952 the Student Engineering Council, which decided t o provide f o r i t s e l f a center f o r student a c t i v i t i e s t o be cal led Taylor's T Room i n honor of the l a t e Thomas Ulvan Taylor, Dean of the College from 1906 t o 1936. Tne a rea chosen f o r t h i s Purpose was under the south wing of the Engineering Building. Competent engineers estimated t h a t tbe excavation would cost i n the neighborhood of $20,000. Estimated cost of f inishing the in t e r io r and equipping the rooms was $30,000. The students i n the College of Engineering volunteered t o do the excavating and the project became bown as "Operation Gopker". Alumni and fr iends Of the College have contributed funds which now t o t a l almost $25,000.
