● Introduce today’s big idea, Jesus Knows Everything About Us through the story of The Woman at the Well

● Scripture: John 4: 1-26

● (Click to show Big Idea slide) Here’s today’s BIG IDEA: Jesus knows everything about us.

● Say: Usually when you first meet someone, you don’t much about them, right? Well, it’s different with Jesus. He knows EVERYTHING about you, and understands you completely! Today, we’re going to hear a story about a woman that Jesus met for the first time. But even though she didn’t know him, he knew HER very well....and it changed her life!

● Say: We start with Jesus taking a really long trip, and he decided to stop and rest in a place called Samaria. That’s where he met this woman. Now this is pretty important, so let’s break down why:

○ Jesus was a Jew, and the woman was a Samaritan○ Jews didn’t normally like Samaritans. In fact, back then, they hated

each other, and fought all the time!○ Not only that, but this woman was looked down on by EVERYONE.

She had made some pretty bad choices, and other people didn’t want anything to do with her.

● Say: Jesus didn’t care about all that, so he decided to speak to her! She was totally shocked, because most Jews would never talk to a Samaritan. But there’s something else that surprises her even more! Let’s watch a video to see what happened when they met. As you watch, try to figure out what surprises the woman more than anything!

● Video: Saddleback Kids / Woman at the Well ● Ask: What do you guys think the woman was most surprised about? (Let

kids respond.) ○ First, this woman was blown away when Jesus knew her deepest,

darkest secrets!○ Not only that, she was shocked that he accepted and loved her, even

though she had done wrong things.● Ask: But then, something else shocked her too. What was it? (Let kids

respond.) Yep, she began to realize who Jesus was. He was the long-awaited Rescuer! Even though Jews and Samaritans fought and hated each other, they were ALL waiting for a rescuer to save them from all of the sin in the world.

● Have kids get in pairs. Kids will have one minute to tell their partners as much as they can about themselves, while the partner has to remember as much as possible.

● Put a 1-minute countdown on the screen and let the first kid in each pair go. After their minute is up, start the timer over and let the second kid go.

● Now it’s time to remember what we heard! Have partners take turns saying everything they can remember about each other.

● Then let kids find a NEW partner, and start the whole game over again!● Let kids play the game with several partners (repeat the 1-minute timer as many times as needed).

Then let a few kids come up to the stage and try to repeat everything they heard.

Connect the game to the big idea: Jesus knows everything about us, and we’re going to get to know each other as well as we can...in 1 minute!

Ask● Why is it hard to tell people things about ourselves sometimes? ● Do you ever feel like you need to be perfect? ● Do we have to be perfect for Jesus to love us?

Do● Say: Think of something about yourself that you might not want to tell others

about. What “imperfect” things about yourself do you wish you could keep hidden? Think about it silently as we check out this video.

● Video: Take a Minute / Repent● Say: Jesus sees ALL our imperfections, and he forgives us of all the wrong

choices we might try to hide from him. He loves us, and will always give us another chance to turn away from our sin, and turn towards him.

COOL DOWN

● Play the 10-Second Countdown Timer to help redirect kids’ attention as you transition into Large Group.

● Say: Jesus knows you and me. In fact, the Bible tells us he knows how many hairs are on our heads. He knows every little thing we’ve done, wrong or right. He knows what we’re thinking. He knows everything we WILL DO in the future. And no matter what we have done, he loves us and wants us to accept his rescue and be a part of God’s family!

● Say: Raise your hand if you think Jesus knows everything about you. (Let kids respond.) Raise your hand if you think Jesus loves you no matter what you’ve done. (Let kids respond.) Raise your hand if Jesus came to earth to rescue YOU from the wrong things you’ve done. (Let kids respond.) YES!

● Say: Let’s all take a minute to close our eyes and spend some time with Jesus. Jesus knows every single thing you’ve done, whether it’s good or bad. He knows every choice you’ve ever made; he knows the things that no one else does. And no matter what, he still loves you. He still wants to rescue you. In you head, thank Jesus for that. (Give kids a few seconds of silence.)

● Say: It’s kind of hard to believe Jesus feels that way about us, isn’t it? It seems impossible that Jesus can know EVERYTHING about us, and love us no matter what wrong choices we’ve made. Let’s read this month’s verse together. It’s all about how Jesus makes everything possible.

● Slide: Mark 10:27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

● Say: Regular people don’t know our every thought and choice. And regular people certainly can’t rescue us from all the wrong things in the world. But God can. He can do anything, and he loves us no matter what.

● Pray: Jesus, we’re so glad you’ve given us living water, instead of just regular water. You want us to live like you, and follow you. We’re so glad you’ve rescued us, and that you love us no matter what. Amen!

● Say: One of the best ways to show our thanks to Jesus is to worship him out loud with singing and dancing. Everyone stand up and follow along with me!

Instead of yelling “Stop!” or “Quiet!” when kids are getting disruptive, try a phrase that will redirect their attention to you:

● If you can hear my voice, touch your nose! If you can hear my voice, give someone a high five!

● Try this: whispering instead of yelling!

What do they share with you? ● What surprised the woman about her conversation with Jesus? ● How do you think the woman felt when she realized Jesus knew her? How would YOU have felt?● Why do you think Jesus chose to announce that he was the Rescuer to this woman who was

disliked by everybody and not following God at all? (he loves people no matter who they are; he wants to rescue everyone)

● How does it make you feel to think about Jesus knowing every single thing about you? Are you glad, or not?

● If Jesus were sitting here with us, what would you most want to tell him?

● Split your group into teams of 6 kids each. ● Give each team a game board, a die, a set of game cards and a game piece for each kid. ● Here’s the rules to play the game:

○ Roll the die and move that number of spaces along the game board path.○ When you land on a colored space, hand the die to the next person and let them go.

■ When you land on a space with a star, pick up a card. ■ Each card has a funny action to do, or a question to answer. (Some kids will need

help reading their card, so be available.) After they’ve done the funny action, they have to say something that they want Jesus’ help with. (If kids are uncomfortable sharing, don’t force them.)

○ Everyone gets to finish the WHOLE game and get his or her game piece to the end. ○ Tell kids to let you know when they finish, so you can hand them a verse card. If there’s

time, have kids take turns reading the verse aloud.
