A letter from the Pastor

March 14, 2021 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” This is perhaps the best-known phrase of the Bible, both Old and New Testament included. If we had to summarize the whole Bible into one verse -quite an impossible proposal- this would be a very likely verse to fulfill such an endeavor. Part of the reason is that it includes some of the most important bibli-cal words ever written: God, love, only Son, believes, not pe-rish, eternal life...That is quite a set of words, perhaps unmat-ched in any other verse of Scripture! The other factor that ma-kes this verse so significant is that it gives the ultimate and de-finitive action of God that no other action by Him could sur-pass it. It could be said that this is God’s ultimate testament and will, in His full capacity and with perfect knowledge. This phrase captures the greatest and most original desire of our Heavenly Father and Father of Jesus Christ! We should relish and memorize these words, and by doing that we should feel like we are reciting the whole of Scripture in one powerful verse. Question for meditation: Can you think of another verse as powerful as John 3:16? Reflection for parents with children: Help your children to memorize their favorite verse of the Bible. “Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo, que le entregó a su Hijo único, para que todo el que crea en él no perezca, sino que ten-ga vida eterna.” Este es posiblemente el verso mejor conocido de la Biblia, incluyendo el Antiguo y Nuevo Testamento. Si tuviéramos que resumir la Biblia entera en un verso—algo prácticamente imposible—este sería un versículo que proba-blemente lograría ese cometido. Parte de la razón es que con-tiene algunas de las palabras bíblicas más importantes: Dios, amor, Hijo único, crea, no perezca, vida eterna... ¡Esta serie de palabras no tienen igual en ningún otro versículo de la Biblia! El otro factor que hace este versículo tan significativo es que menciona la acción más definitiva de parte de Dios, la cual ninguna otra acción puede superar. Se pudiera decir que este es el último testamento de Dios, obrando con plena capacidad divina y conocimiento. ¡Esta frase capta el más grande y origi-nal deseo de nuestro Padre Celestial y Padre de Jesús! Debiéra-mos valorar y memorizar este versículo, y al hacerlo, debiéra-mos sentir como si estuviéramos recitando la Biblia entera. Pregunta para meditar: ¿Puedes pensar en otro versículo de la Biblia más poderoso que Juan 3:16? Monthly Explanation of the Mass

The Penitential Act & the Gloria At the beginning of each Mass, we take time to prepare ourselves

through the Penitential Act to enter into the sacred litur-gy and encounter Christ. We ask God to help us that by acknowledging our sins we may prepare ourselves to listen to his Word & share in the Body and Blood of Christ. We recognize our need for God’s help, our need to be saved, so we ask his mercy upon us: “Lord,have mercy. Christ have mercy. Lord have mercy.” Immediately following this (on Sundays outside of Advent and Lent and on solemnities, feasts, and at other solemn celebrations) we join the angels and saints in heaven and sing the Gloria – the same hymn sung by the angels to the shepherds heralding the birth of Jesus (Christmas). The incarnation is God’s re-sponse to our sinfulness! During Lent and Advent, we do not sing the Gloria due to the penitential nature of the seasons and the emphasis on expectancy. In these seemingly routine moments of the Mass that we can become all too familiar with, the Lord in-vites us to bring our minds and hearts into the deep mystery of our faith – God so loves us that he sent his Son. Jesus has come not to condemn the world, but to save the world.

Explicación mensual de la misa El acto penitencial y la gloria

Al comienzo de cada Misa, nos tomamos un tiempo para prepararnos a través del Acto Penitencial para entrar en la sagrada liturgia y encontrarnos con Cristo. Le pedimos a Dios que nos ayude para que al reconocer nuestros pecados podamos prepararnos para escuchar su Palabra y participar del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Reconocemos nuestra necesidad de la ayuda de Dios, nuestra necesidad de ser salvos, por lo que le pedimos su misericordia: “Señor, ten piedad. Cristo, ten piedad. Señor ten piedad." Inmediatamente después de esto (los domingos fuera de Adviento, y Cuaresma y en solemnidades, fiestas y otras celebraciones solemnes) nos unimos a los ángeles y a los santos en el cielo y cantamos la Gloria, el mismo himno cantado por los ángeles a los pastores que anuncia el nacimiento de Jesús (Navidad). ¡La encarnación es la respuesta de Dios a nuestra pecaminosidad! Durante la Cuaresma y el Ad-viento, no cantamos la Gloria debido a la naturaleza penitencial de las estaciones y al énfasis en la expec-tativa. En estos momentos aparentemente rutinarios de la Misa con los que podemos familiarizarnos demasiado, el Señor nos invita a llevar nuestras mentes y cora-zones al profundo misterio de nuestra fe: Dios nos ama tanto que envió a su Hijo. Jesús no ha venido a con-denar al mundo, sino a salvarlo.
