Appointment of New Deputy HeadIt is with much pleasure that I announce that Mrs Carmelina Eussen has been appointed as the new Deputy commencing Term 1 next year Mrs Eussen is an experienced educator with a background in Marist education Prior to her current role as Head of Senior School at Santa Sabina College Strathfield she was the Assistant Principal at Marist College Penshurst This is a wonderful appointment for the College and I am sure you join with me in welcoming Carmelina to the Marcellin community
Other Staff MovementsWith Mrs Eussenrsquos appointment Mr Paul Daley will move to the role of Director of Wellbeing from the beginning of next year Mr Daley has done an outstanding job as Deputy Headmaster over the past eighteen months and I thank him for very generously taking on this role Prior to Mr Daleyrsquos stint Mr Peter Buxton had been the Deputy Headmaster since 2013 In Term 3 last year he was seconded by Sydney Catholic Schools to Marist College Kogarah as Assistant Principal Mr Buxton was due to return to Marcellin next year but as many in the community would be aware he was recently appointed Principal at De La Salle College Caringbah commencing next year This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the work Peter has done both here at Marcellin and at Kogarah more recently
Another significant appointment last week was that of Mr Paul MacGee current Year 11 Coordinator and Student Leadership Coordinator who was announced as the new Assistant Principal at Champagnat Catholic College Pagewood commencing next year Paulrsquos work here particularly in the areas of pastoral care and student leadership has been first class and his presence will be missed particularly by the current Year 11 cohort
Also for next year Ms Jenny Dove Diverse Learning Coordinator has been seconded to Sydney Catholic Schools to assist with the implementation of the Newman Program across other secondary schools in the Easter Region Again this is an acknowledgement of the work Jenny has done here particularly with the Newman stream classes and teachers over the past 6 years I think it is safe to say that Mr Buxtonrsquos secondment to Kogarah and subsequent appointment as Principal Mr MacGeersquos appointment as Assistant Principal and Ms Doversquos secondment to Sydney Catholic Schools is a great testament to Marcellin College as a fertile breeding ground for leaders in Catholic education
These staffing appointments aside there is little movement in teaching staff for next year However I do want to acknowledge and thank the following staff who will be moving on next year
bull Mr Robert Almeida ndash moving to Marist College Kogarahbull Ms Chiara Pascuzzo ndash Chiara was here for 2017 replacing Ms Anita De Francesco who returns to Marcellin next yearbull Mr Hugh Sherwood-Mearesbull Mr Marco Fraietta
Also finishing up as Chaplain to the College is Fr Greg Morgan Fr Greg has been a mainstay over the past 4 years leading

ATSI Transition Program
This yearrsquos transition program for the 2018 Yr7 ATSI students was a huge success with the 7 new students spending the day learning about life at Marcellin The boys met with all our ATSI boys and had the opportunity to make connections with them during different activities throughout the day
Highlights of the day were many starting with the selfie challenge around the College with a Year 7 boy sending the boys to all the important places to know This was only surpassed by the two lessons spent cooking up a storm in the kitchen making kangaroo burgers and chocolate damper The boys enjoyed sitting and sharing the delicious meal together and eating all the leftovers A fierce game of basketball in The Marist Centre followed at lunchtime The boys completed the day shadowing their Year 7 boy in a class
All the boys involved enjoyed the day and our new students left feeling more confident about their start here at the College Thank you to all the teachers involved

The Annual Music Camp
In Week 8 of this term the Music Department took a selected number of students from Years 7-10 to Mulgoa for our annual Music Camp What a wonderful way to end a busy and productive year in music in the life of the College
It was a 3-day camp out at the Edmund Rice Retreat Centre On the second day all of the Collegersquos tutors attended for a full day workshop and tutorial session leading the boys in various ensemble work We had a Guitar Ensemble Vocal Stage band Percussion and Piano Ensemble The boys worked hard throughout the full 900am - 400pm workshop day rehearsing and preparing for an end-of-day performance to showcase what they did during the day
The Music Camp brought together a group of boys with one common passion and purpose the love of music Some boys had never even met each other but by the end of the camp there was a real sense of friendship and bonding Having a group of our more experienced and older students who really encouraged and supported the younger boys was wonderful to witness The night time Talent Show proved to be a 3 hour showcase of a huge range of talent- from comedy skits to solo performances and big group showcases which had the boys up and dancing
In order to be eligible to attend the lsquoinvitation-onlyrsquo camp a student must be involved in an ensemble have participated in College life through music or has been identified by their music teachertutor as having great musical potential I encourage any boy who has a reasonable level of expertise on their instrument to become involved in 2018 and be a part of our dynamic Music Department
The camp was a rewarding experience for all including the teachers I could not think of a better way to end the year and I already canrsquot wait for Music Camp 2018
