The Rocket Review Spring Edition To all Rocket lovers, First of all, our next busi- ness meeting is Sunday May 18th at 1:30 pm at the Hard Times Cafe in Rockville, MD. I will be bringing copies of our August show flyer for you to look at (I am still finishing it up) and an update on former secretary Richard Keyser's heart surgery in Florida. The Buick club will be fold- ing, stuffing, stamping and labeling some 360 plus flyers off of our mailing list to pro- mote our annual show, so be glad you don't have to help with that! I want to thank all of those that contributed to the discussion of the new "stock/modified" wording that we are incorporating into this year's show. This show is a team effort, and it helps to get anyone's opinion who wants to help. We are constantly trying to improve the show without sacrificing the fun we have. Many folks love our show for the simplicity and fun and we want to keep it that way. We will be having a new food ven- dor this year that will be there in the morning with breakfast (!) as well as lunch! Last month CCR had a very successful "Spring Dust-Off" at the new venue, Star Pontiac /Buick/GMC in Lees- burg, VA. Despite the sur- rounding rain clouds we had a terrific turnout. There was even a new to the area Chev- elle owner couple who came to check us out and couldn't be- lieve how nice the "Oldsmobile folks" were. Many founding CCR faces popped up like Jeff Dorman and Burt Parker, which always nice to see. We were promised a front lot (right on Route 7) next time and Leesburg is a great town and a great place to start out the show season. I will be bringing copies of our August show flyer for you to look at (I am still finishing it up) and an update on former secretary Richard Keyser's heart surgery in Florida. a few reasons—first, we

would like to establish

positive reciprocal rela-

tionships with GM deal-

ers like we had in the

past, where the dealer

benefits by bringing traf-

fic and brand awareness

to those attending and

associated with the

show, while the club

gains a location to hold

the event. Second, we

wanted a more central

location for the majority

of our members both in

Maryland and Virginia.

We felt like the STAR

dealership accomplished

both of these goals.

Many thanks to

Ken Quincy, Mike Scott,

and Margaret Straubin-

ger for showing up early

to assist. We also would

like to express a great

thanks to STAR Pontiac,

Buick, GMC for their

time and effort to clear

the large lot for us and

accommodate all of the

cars that showed up.

A special thanks

goes to Mr. Ray Martin

and his sales staff for

making our event possible

and seamless. We en-

joyed the locale, many of

us checked out some

great vehicles on the lot,

and we hope that the rest

of you will patronize

STAR when you are

thinking about a new or

pre-owned vehicle. They

possess a wide inventory

of GM vehicles and there

were some stunning cars

and trucks on the lot at

great prices. We hope we

can return to STAR again

as we were very pleased

with the event.

The Dust Off

brought out over 40 cars

by my count, and some

terrific Oldsmobiles in

the area we hadn‟t seen

before. Many thanks,

too, to the folks at Capi-

talcruisin.com. Most of

the non-CCR crowd came

as a result of the ad we

ran there, including a pair

of GTO‟s, a „57 Vette, a

pair of Buick Grand Na-

tionals, and a tricked out

„39 Chevy Master Deluxe.

If you couldn‟t make it,

you missed a good one.,

It threatened all week

to rain, and I suppose it

did in some places around

the area, but in Leesburg,

VA, the skies were clear

most of the day and the

Capitol City Rocket faith-

ful who stayed all after-

noon even left a little sun-

burnt. It was an unusu-

ally warm spring Satur-

day April 12th as we set

up shop in a new location

for the Annual Spring

Dust Off.

I had approached

our gracious hosts, STAR

Pontiac, Buick, GMC

Trucks in February to see

if they would be inter-

ested in hosting our

event. Working with Bob

Grouge, the sales man-

ager, and especially owner

Ray Martin, the STAR

dealership opened their

lot to us and gave us a

new home for the Dust

Off. The club decided to

relocate the Dust Off for

Steve Meyer’s ‘73 Cutlass

and Jeff Surdyk’s ‘61 Starfire

contemplate the cloudy

skies, but no rain.
