1 Mara on psychopathy and narcissism

description

The book, The Acts of Mara, is amongst the most mysterious in the oeuvre related to the Seer of Nippur. All clay tablets of the text found thus far are written in Akkadian (Old Babylonian) with the exception of the claimed direct quotes of the Seer that are in Sumerian. No unanimity exists on the dating of these writings; whilst the main text is Akkadian, the quotes reflect a remarkably ancient form of Emesal Sumerian. In most cases the style corresponds to that found in the rest of the texts attributed to Mara but there are exceptions. If this book were composed by her followers during her lifetime, the original is yet to be discovered as the Akkadian edition must be a copy of a copy of an original Sumerian text.

The Acts of Gula Bau, XII: 1 – 9.

And ye ask of me, “Thou writest of the Terrible Judge and the jury in the House of Irkalla. And that his name is ‘Conscience.’ However, be there not those who have only half a soul, and furthermore those who lack empathy altogether?”

Open yer ears so that ye may hear. Preached I not also at Ekur*1, wrote I not on a tablet: “Verily be weeping the harmony in Erigal, the gnashing of teeth, rhythm. And for the toothless, dentures will indeed be provided in order to maintain the percussion.”

Thus with the unconscionable and the cruel. For the kind-hearted one who entereth the House receive the thick hide of the hornfoot*2, but he who entereth with hardened heart, his skin tenderiseth, verily becometh it like that of an infant.

And he who entereth with half a soul, is filled up with the remainder which in his lifetime wandered in confusion in distant realms. Yea, it findeth its home and it filleth him so that it spilleth out.

Woe to him who entereth there utterly without conscience! For to him be given one in which hath gathered all the grief and remorse and sorrow and despair from the beginning of humankind. Woe to him.

Also ye ask of me: “What of the pervert and the deviant who hungereth after punishment, yea, who yearneth for the whip and seeketh humiliation? Verily exist those, and be Erigal not to them heaven itself?”

To the depth of wisdom in Erigal there is no bottom, nor is there ceiling to the height. All knowledge from the beginning, on everyone, human and a host of [conscious] beings, is stored there-in.

Some of those where-of ye speak were mutilated as children, yea their soul was harmed; certain of them inherit it from the bloodline, yet others are enchanted and misled by Tiamat, Dragon of Innumerable Faces*3 who dwelleth in everyone, the viper curled up on the threshold of the soul at birth.

For all and sundry of the sicknesses of the soul – whether it entered from outside or whether it emerged internally – for each be there verily a counsel and a treasure chest of cures. Not every ailment is undone by torment – but hush! Spread not this word, store it in the inner room.

Wherefore torment ye yerselves by these thoughts? Be wise and avoid the unconscionable, yea, flee from those with half a soul! Be not misled by flattery or charm, is it not like throwing open the gates of the city at night? The rewards of foolishness verily resemble those of sin.

Heed mine admonitions and be not deaf to my warnings. And proclaim not the wisdom about the other cures – the ones that are not castigations – on the streets and in the market places and at Ekur.

Uŝomgal muŝ sag imín = Great snake (dragon) with seven/innumerable faces. In Sumerian 7 could mean 7 OR

innumerable.

Manifestation of the Primordial Unconscious

By Djuna Mautanin, lecture delivered in Paris, Feb 1923.

“The manifestation of the primordial unconscious must needs be an order of magnitude more splendid and terrifying than the manifestation of the collective unconscious. Here we see the connections between disparate mythologies so painstakingly examined by Sir James Frazer in The Golden Bough. Here we have the creatures of primitive creation myth, Tiamat and Uranus. Immanence, or indwelling, is the spiritual proposition that the numinosium may focus into the physical body. We must also take into account the legends of possession by demons or spirits. Whether or not the collective or even primordial unconscious may collect itself behind the veil of the persona, filling the unconscious remains open to chilling speculation.”

Open jul ore sodat jul hoor.

Waaroor kwel jul jul oor dié dinge?

In Sumeries kon 7 letterlik 7

beteken OF oneindige/ontelbare. Laasgenoemde is die toepaslike betekenis in hierdie geval.
