10. DEBATE FINAL.
The Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach is “an educational approach in
which an additional language is used for learning and teaching both academic content and foreign
language in order to promote the domain of the discipline in question and of the language
competence” (Maljers et al, 2010).
- En Educación Superior: EMI or ICLHE.
CONTENIDO (Coyle, Hood, and Marsh 2010; Dalton-Puffer and Nikula 2006; Marsh
extranjera a nivel superior sea INMINENTE.
modelo a seguir?)

o profesional. (Carlino, 2005).
PROFESORES: Pertenecen a determinadas comunidades de
práctica.
A community of practice is a collection of people who engage on an
ongoing basis in some common endeavor (Eckert, 2006: 1). (Ej. Grupo

una disciplina, puesto que a student needs to learn how people
in that discipline support their arguments. (Thornbury, 2005:
94).
Ejemplos de tipos de textos según su
géneros discursivos:
• Textos jurídicos (contratos, patentes,
sentencias)
• Científicos (artículos de investigación,
informes de laboratorio, etc.)
• Publicitarios (anuncio, presentación de un
producto, carta comercial, etc.)

architectures
2. Program an algorithm using different programming languages.
3. Carry out an investigation into possible solutions and discuss findings
with other groups.
STEP 2.• CONNECTING CONTENT AND COGNITION.
At this stage, we should determine that the student should know the following language
lexicon, grammar, discoursive elements:
1. The key vocabulary/ phrases, i.e. Multithreading, Message Passing Interface, Graphic
Processor Unit, Parallelism, etc.
2. Effective use of future and conditional tenses for cause/effect solutions, suggestions.
3. Language of describing, defining, explaining, hypothesizing, concluding.
4. Textual cohesion and coherence elements.
5. Textual genres: scientific report and oral presentation.
We also should define the kind of activities the students must develop:
1. In groups: asking and answering questions about the program implementations.
2. Language to describe graphics and tables.
3. Language to make comparisons and conclusions.
4. Writing a scientific report.
5. Oral presentation skills.
STEP 3.• DEFINING LANGUAGE LEARNING.
STEP 4.• PREPARING THE MATERIALS.
It is advisable the use of REAL materials in higher education
CLIL lessons.
Pre-tasks Main task Post-tasks
STEP 4.• DEFINING TASKS.
1. WORD CLOUD.
2. KEY VOCABULARY AND LANGUAGE STRUCTURES.
PRE-TASK:
Different web page addresses related to
parallel architectures and programming
are given to the students.
They must determine the most frequently
used.
PRE-TASK:
A short scientific paper on the matter is
given to the students.
GROUP TAST: The group has to design
parallel programs using different
architectures and parallel programming
language to solve the assigned problem P.
Later they must run the programs using
different amount of processors and evaluate
the efficiency and effectiveness of the parallel
code with respect to the number of
processors.
The group should show the results into
graphics and tables and to explain them and
finally compare the different strategies and to
conclude which one is the best for the
assigned problem P. After finishing the
experiments the group should write a report
using the templates of a scientific paper and
should also give an oral presentation to
expose the main results and conclusions.
Aims:
1. Develop software in order to exploit the high performance systems.
2. Analyze and evaluate mono- and multi-processor software.
3. Report the results using the scientific methodology.
4. Understand the differences among different high performance architectures
5. Program an algorithm using different programming languages
