We will honor not only our own most active members for 2002, but recog- nize those in the community who have worked for the preservation of the county in the public sector. In the past we've hon- ored elected officials, professional jour- nalists, eco-friendly businesses, student conservationists and grassroots activists. If you admire someone in the chapter or community and would like to see them recognized, submi t their name and a brief description of their accomplishments to the chapter office before March 10th. For nomination forms please visit our chapter website at: http://sandiego.sierraclub.org/awards/, or Cheryl will email it to you. Call her at 619-299-1743. This year's event will be held Friday, April 4th at the TierraSanta Recreation Center  , 11238 Clairemon t Mesa Blvd. from 6 to 9 pm. Please bring a favorite dish for the potluck dinner starting at 6 pm. The chapter will provide water, coffee, tea and  juice. Please bring your own non-dispos- able plate and utensils to limit unneces- sary waste. Entertainment will be provided  by the eleven-member youth band of Bird Singers from the Campo Indian Reservation led by Paul Cuero. Their chanting rhythms promise to slip you into a long forgotten world and stir up visions of the distant past. Check it Out! "Fragments" depicting some of the changes happening around San Diego County and the consequences of inac- tion. A requ ested do natio n of $4. 00 will be collected at the door from friends and visitors to defray our costs. Directions: Take Clairemont Mesa Blvd. east from I-15. At one mile you cross through Santo Road. Continue another mile to the Tierrasan ta Recreation Center entrance on the left (this is not a lighted intersection, so watch for the sign). The ceremony will be on the ground floor of the swimming pool building.
