    Individualized Program Plan Components Review

    Information

As schools and school authorities move toward a more inclusive education system, there remain highexpectations for all students in Alberta, including those with diverse learning needs. The Standards

for Special Education (2004) requires school boards to identify and deliver effective programming forstudents with special education needs in Grades 1 to 12. The Individualized Program Plan (IPP),which currently includes ten required components, is a concise plan of action designed to addressstudents' special education needs.

Work has been initiated to review the components required in IPPs in Alberta. There will be anopportunity to engage stakeholders in an IPP Component Survey in March 2013. Students, teachers, school leaders, parents and educational assistants will be asked to share their thoughts about IPP com-ponents and the future direction of IPPs. Results will be used to help make decisions about future IPPcomponents in Alberta. Your feedback is welcome and encouraged.

To participate in this surbey go to the following link: www.banister.ab.ca/2013IPPsurvey. The online survey will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes tocomplete.

    BIRTH CERTIFICATES REQUIRED

A student, parent/guardian, or custodian is required to present legal proof of a studentsname, citizenship and birthdate when a child is registered in school. If a student was born in anauthority outside of Canada, an official document from that authority will be accepted. If thisdocumentation has not yet been provided to the school, we request you have this in by mid-April.

We are required to have a copy of all students birth certificates on file.

The approximate cost of obtaining a birth certificate in Canada is $35.75. The parent/guardian requesting the birth certificate must have one piece of identification (their own birthcertificate, drivers license or passport). Once ordered, it will take approximately two weeks to arrive.
