The Four Keys of Faith FormationThe Four Keys are provided to help you nourish your child’s/grandchild’s faith.Scripture Readings for the Third Weekend in Lent:Exodus 20:1-17; Psalm 19; 1 Corinthians 1:18-25; John 2:13-22

Family Devotions: Martin Luther stated: “Wherever you place your trust, that, then is your God.” Talk aboutwhat other things or people we have made “god.” Read the story from John.

Caring Conversation: Exodus 20 tells the story of how God gave us the Ten Commandments. They tell ushow God wants us to live and what it means to have “a God.” In your home devotional time this week, focuson the Ten Commandments, two at a time. Talk about what each one means, and pray for God’s help to keepthem. Look them up in your Small Catechism and talk about Luther’s explanations.

Family Service: As Lutherans, we believe that we respond to what we have heard through the Good News of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ – given for you for the forgiveness of sins. Good works(good fruit) happens, and we do not even know about it. As parents, you can “create” opportunities for yourkids to learn about service, with the understanding that service is not a “have-to” but rather a “get-to” – a“response-to.” Having heard the Gospel preached, we move beyond ourselves, caring for our neighbor. Think about the Scripture verses for the week and the conversations you have shared. God has giftedyou and your children with abilities, personalities, and certain qualities. As a parent, family member, or friend, you can help them discover their unique gifts by encouraging them in the things that they do well and feel passionate that they can serve others.

Family Traditions & Rituals: The temple was a sacred place for God’s Old Testament people. Talk togetherabout what are sacred places or items for your household, through which you are reminded of God’s presence. Design a sacred place especially for Lent: decorate an area in your home with a cross, candles, and various items, symbols or pictures associated with Lent (you may wish to use lots of purple, the churchcolor for Lent).

Did You Know...

We had 80 of our confirmands

gather for a “Living Lent” Retreat

on February 25th?

They walked through all of Lent, from Ash Wednesday through Good Friday,

and had a great time learning about God’s awesome love for us.

Their Ash Wednesday artwork is on display for all to see in the south hallway (outside the Fireside Room).

Check it out today!
