Gamalinda Date: Tue, 26 Jun 2007 11:43:36 -0700 A good number of our friends and classmates went to see Ate Baby for the last time at the Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary last night. Most of us (Art& Nita Labrador, Bob & Beth Cuyugan, Cesar & Cora Giron, Fel & Linda Sarno, Nes and Medy Pagtalunan, Annie, Fe & her sister, and Alex & Lorena Cruz), met at the home of Fe Estiandan before going to the mortuary. Bernie Bernales, who flew in from Hawaii to attend the services last night and the mass today,Doming and Doris Erenea were at the mortuary when we arrived. We had the rosary and then followed by several people giving eulogies. Bernie sang How Great Thou Art and also gave the eulogy in behalf of the ChE/Chem 1964 giving emphasis to the fact that we were Ate Baby’s favorite class in MIT Philippines. As per Ate Baby’s request when she was alive, Nes gave a beautiful rendition of the song My Way, one of Ate Baby’s favorite songs. Evelyn Gimenez Lopez and her husband Danny were also at the viewing last night. We put together a collage of our pictures with Ate Baby and brought that with us in the viewing. It was displayed at the entrance of the room. We also had a group picture taken in the parking lot of the mortuary. Bernie, Art and Nitz attended the funeral mass today. Regards,

======================================= Subject: RE: FW: Sisters of St. Francis in Savannah, Missourri Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2007 16:21:25 -0700 Hi Mando, You and whoever would like to make a donation can send me your checks, payable to the Sisters of St. Francis of Savannah. We will put them all together and send them to Sister Audrey. The sisters will not be able to come to the viewing or mass so they will have a memorial service for Ate Baby in Savannah. My home address is: 21133 Catskill Ave. Carson, CA 90745 Annie

Annie: Do let me know how we will do the donation. My Opinion only: better to turn the donations over to the Sisters in one envelope or package. This means, sending You the checks and you turn them all to the Sisters all at one time.

======================================= Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2007 14:26:53 -0700 This is from Sister Audrey of the Sisters of St. Francis of Savannah in Missouri. [From: Annie Santarina] From: Audrey Locke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2007 12:23 PM To: Anita Santarina Subject: Dear Anita, Thank you so much for your call about Imelda. We are all very sad to loose such an outstanding human being. We like you, will miss her the rest of our days. No doubt she is storming heaven and she will indeed intercede on our behalf. Thank you and the rest of Imelda's wonderful students for your kind and most generous consideration in making a donation in memory of our dear friend and very much loved Imelda. Imelda would speak so often about her students and how they cared so much for her. What a wonderful blessing from God. I tried once again to phone Fe, but she was not home and there was no answering machine for me to leave a message. So sorry to have missed her. Please tell her that I did receive your email. Know that we will be with you in prayer and spirit when you lay our dear and beloved friend to rest. I will be in contact and please feel free to call on us. We will keep Imelda's legacy alive. Thank you once again for thinking of us and our ministries that Imelda has been a part of for years. Blessings, Sister Audrey P.S. Would it be possible to get names and addresses of all who contributes to the memorial for Imelda?

Thank you so much for all your efforts in giving us the details of the funeral. There is just one very minor correction however. The state abbreviation for Missouri is MO, not MI (for Michigan). Regards, Bernie On 6/19/07, Anita Santarina < > wrote: Thanks Linda! The street name is Stranwood Ave.

For all of us, friends of Ate Baby, who are grieving for her loss and wanting to do something for her for the last time, I know that what Linda mentioned in her e-mail wil l make her very happy. We could either pool our funds for a one check donation or you can send your check directly to the Sisters of St. Francis of Savannah at 104 East Park, Savannah, MI 64485. I wil l find out to whose attention we can send our donation in Ate Baby's behalf.

======================================= Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2007 18:37:38 EDT Dear All, Here are the details concerning Ate Baby: Her remains will be available for viewing by the public at Mission Hills Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Transwood Avenue, Mission Hills, CA 91345. The telephone number is 818-361-7387 (in case the spelling of the street is incorrect). a. Viewing will be on Monday, June 25, 5--9PM with the Congregational Rosary at 7PM. b. On Tuesday, June 26, Mass will be said at 11 AM. It is not very clear at this moment if it wil l be followed by a burial or by cremation. By copy, please let everyone who knew Ate Baby, of this schedule. Annie Santarina is setting up a fund collection where all our monetary contributions will be given to the Sisters of St. Francis of Savannah, Mo, the congregation whom Ate Baby was very close to. The suggestion is to pool all our funds so it can be given to them in one check or in one envelope. I am sure that the nuns will continue praying for her eternal joy and peace. Ate Baby had a funeral plan and as you know, had no immediate family. I am sure she would prefer that our contributions go to this congregation. Thank you, Linda Sarno

about the death of our beloved Ate Baby Gamalinda. May God bring us (the family of Ms. Baby Gamalinda and her Mapua64 friends) the comfort we need at this time of sorrow. May the following message found in 1 Thessalonians 4 (Contemporary English Version) reminds us of our REUNION IN HEAVEN with her: "The Lord's Coming 13My friends, we want you to understand how it will be for those followers who have already died. Then you won't grieve over them and be like people who don't have any hope. 14We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died. 15Our Lord Jesus told us that when he comes, we won't go up to meet him ahead of his followers who have already died. 16With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God's trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. 17Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. 18Encourage each other with these words." Regards to all. Rom Altares [email protected]

Alma called my home phone last Saturday and left me a message to call her back. I was able to contact her early this morning. Apparently the police were called Saturday morning when Ate Baby's cleaning lady found her lying on the floor unresponsive. Meanwhile Fe called Ate Baby's number to make arrangements for them to attend Sunday mass, and the police picked up the call.

There is still an investigation going on to find out the actual cause of her death. Ate Baby's siblings were notified already.

Please offer prayers for the repose of her soul. [From: Aning G. Navarro]

========================================== Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2007 22:08:59 -0700 Subject: GOOD BYE MAAM! GOOD BYE, Maam! I am not known to be a very religious person but please allow me to deliver to you this message that I composed for this particular and specific purpose; a message that comes from my heart. To all my class/batch mates (Mapua Institute of Technology Chemical Engineering - Chemistry Class of 1964) and their spouses: To all of you my friends and classmates who I know all share with me and my wife, Tita, our love and affection for our dearly beloved mentor, adviser, and friend, Ms. Gamalinda. Miss Gamalinda has left us. She left us to go through a much more important mission than all that she had gone through in her life with us in this world. She has joined her Creator as all of us eventually will. At this time, let us put our hearts and minds together and pray for her as she approaches her Lord and her Creator. After our initial shock and bereavement, I ask all my classmates and friends to continue praying for her as she meets Him, the only one who can and will eventually judge all of us. I also ask you all to also do something that will serve as an offering to God. I propose that we offer something to the Lord that He expects each and every one of us to offer for and in behalf of our dearly departed one. I submit, from my own personal view, that these are: Love and

Page 8: mapua64/news/update Updated 6/27/07 · To all my class/batch mates (Mapua Institute of Technology Chemical Engineering - Chemistry Class of 1964) and their spouses: To all of you

Forgiveness. But how can offer our love and affection to God for Ms. Gamalinda? My suggestion is: let us look deeply into our own hearts and find out how each one of us can make his or her own individual and personal offering.....an offering that we can so humbly raise to the Lord for and in behalf of our dearly beloved mentor, adviser and friend, Miss Gamalinda. How can we offer our love to God, who we all love? I submit to all of you that God will want us to express our real and sincere love to someone who needs love....to one that has been described by Jesus Christ Himself in the following terms: "to the least of God's brethren" Find out who we can help and go out and do something. Make sure to say a prayer to God and ask Him to carry Ms. Gamalinda in His Almighty arms if she will need them as she goes through that we will all go through one day.... Please find out how you can actually express your love to someone who is now in need of it....a sick person in a hospice, a boy in a hospital ward, or girl in a reformatory unit, someone in prison, someone with a real deep hurt in his or her heart........there are so many of them I am sure we will find one that we can show our real and most sincere love to, in behalf of Ms. Gamalinda. How can we offer our forgiveness? My suggestion is this....let us go and find out how we can forgive someone who we truly believe has hurt us and which hurt remains in our minds and our hearts. Let us then offer this forgiveness to the Lord, our God, in behalf of Ms. Gamalinda. Our individual offerings of love and forgiveness when they join together and become one resounding cry to Heaven

Page 9: mapua64/news/update Updated 6/27/07 · To all my class/batch mates (Mapua Institute of Technology Chemical Engineering - Chemistry Class of 1964) and their spouses: To all of you

will for sure be heard by the Lord, our God, and I have no doubt that He will be most loving and merciful to our beloved Miss Gamalinda. Perhaps, we can also put our heads, minds, and hearts together and find out how else and what else we can do to show our love to the least of God's brethren. Just one common example that comes to mind: there must so many or at least some students of Chemical Engineering who are in need financial support in the Philippines or I assume that there are also those in the US who cannot finish their respective courses because of lack of financial support from the family. There may also be those who have to work double or even triple time just to be able to continue their studies or to buy books, or a PC, or whatever..... Let us collect some funds from our group/class and set up a Professorial Chair (Ms. Gamalinda Professorial Chair in, say, Chemistry or the field in ChE she was focused on) or a Scholarship or just a plain Donation or Deed....someone in our group should be in a better position than I to turn this suggestion to one that is a more concrete undertaking for all of us. That would be, in it itself, a real offering of love. The above message is my own humble way of expressing first my sadness upon hearing the news that we have lost someone we love....and then my realization that if we believe in our Christian faith, we will, after the initial bereavement, be joyful that our loved one passed away so peacefully and, as we hope and pray too, without any physical nor spiritual suffering. Let us all rejoice for our dearly beloved Ms. Gamalinda is now in the loving and forgiving arms of Her Lord and Her Creator... Thank you to all. And to Ms. Gamalinda, Tita joins me in bidding you "Good bye Maam!"

Subject: "Daddy's Empty Chair" Dear Everyone, On this day, "Fathers Day", as well as the day after some of us learned of the passing of Ate Baby Gamalinda, I thought the following story is appropriate. Nitz called me about Ate Baby yesterday. I hope Ate Baby died in peace the way the father died in the story. We also hope that whoever knows the details of the funeral wil l let our group know. Thanks. Best regards, Bernie DADDY'S EMPTY CHAIR

A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father. When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit. "I guess you were expecting me," he said. 'No, who are you?" said the father. The minister told him his name and then remarked, "I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew I was going to show up," "Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?" Puzzled, the minister shut the door. "I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man. "But all of my life I have never known how to pray. At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head. So I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued, "until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me",

"Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest: Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It's not spooky because he promised, 'I will be with you always'. Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now." "So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I'm careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm." The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church. Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon. Did he die in peace?" he asked. "Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead. But there was something strange about his death.

Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed. What do you make of that?" The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that." Just send this to four people or more, and do not break this, please. Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive. I asked God for

water, * He gave me an ocean. I asked God for a flower, * He gave me a garden. I asked God for a friend, * He gave me all of YOU... If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it. Happy moments, praise God. Difficult moments, seek God. Quiet moments, worship God. Painful moments, trust God. Every moment, thank God. Pass this message on to your family. You will receive a miracle tomorrow (just do it)
